Thanks guys for the replies, it has been very helpful. After much needed research on internet and talking to local merchants I have decided to drop the combi idea and go for:
Condensing conventional gas boiler
300 Litre Unvented indirect hot water cylinder
I want Valliant boiler but can’t seem to find one above 28kw on internet, any help on this. I believe I need one between 35kw to 40kw, however seen Worcester 40CDI for £1300 which is 40kw. My budget for a boiler is £1200
As for the cylinder, I need 300litre probably Valliant quality, found one here:
http://www.inspiredheating.co.uk/acatalog/Vaillant_UniSTOR_Unvented_Indirect_Cylinders.html
But its too expensive (£1052) for my cylinder budget which is £800, maybe lesser of make/model will do.
Thanks0 -
That sounds very expensive for the cylinder. Ours had to be replaced as the old one had a small leak & I'm pretty sure it was only about £400 extra - the plumber got it from Screwfix as far as I know. We have 5 people in the house, only one direct plumbed shower, the other 2 are electric, & with normal washing machine (on daily) we only need the hot water to be heated for an hour in the morning & an hour in the evening - though the thermostat on the cylinder switches the boiler off as soon as it reaches temperature so it only runs for about 10 minutes in the evening.
As to the boiler itself, it has to handle 17 radiators and we found the 30kW output was more than adequate - this was verified by BG & Powergen who input room sizes etc. into their program to work out the actual requirements - we didn't take their quotes as they were both very expensive, but it was useful to get free confirmation from them.
Just a quick Google found this Valliant http://www.heatandplumb.com/acatalog/Vaillant_Thermo_Compact_637E_Gas_Boiler.html#a127034 36kW output but seems very cheap (£900) - haven't had a chance to look at al specs, but I note they also do the 40cDi for only just over £1200.0 -
Vaillant definitely do a higher capacity boiler. When we had British Gas to quote, the chap said we need capacity for 100,000 BTU??? (Sorry, not technical at all, someone will probably know what that is, but I don't!). Our is a 5 bed house, 2 power showers, 2 kids etc etc.Looking at the Vaillant website, they do an ecoTEC plus system 630 boiler which is, I think, big enough for our house as it goes up to 102,000 BTU. they also do a 637 which is even more powerful so they're definitely out there.
Best thing would be to look at the Vaillant website, determine exactly which boiler you require, then search for it on the internet & get the best prices.0 -

Thanks mate, that is a very good price.
One thing thou its says "Systems Gas Boilers" and not "Condensing Conventional Gas Boilers", should I be worried about this?0 -
I thought it looked a good price too, but I'm sure it is only SEDBUK 'D' rated for efficiency - or did i misread that? I wouldn't put anything less that A rated in now.0

Decided to go for following, havent bought it yet, looking for best deal:
Vaillant EcoTec Plus 637 System Boiler with standard flue kit, programmer/timer and programmable room thermostat.
As for the cylinder, still looking for a 300litre one.....0 -

I appreciate you have a large house, thus need a large boiler for heating purposes.
However why such a large tank? Unless you have a lot of people all requiring hot water at the same time surely a smaller(and cheaper) tank will suffice? With a 300 litre tank you are heating up a lot more water that most of the time will be just sitting there.
I heard of a guesthouse installing 2 smaller tanks with a switchable valve to heat both when they were to have a large demand.
I have 4 showers, so made one of them electric.
Just a thought.0 -

Agree with cardew - that is a massive tank that will probably only rarely get fully used.
When you get your best price for the boiler & kit, I'd be interested to know what you pay - as once our tradesman comes back to me with a price, I'll know if its reasonable!!0 -

Bought Vaillant EcoTec Plus 637 Boiler with standard flue kit, digital timer and two standard room thermostats. Also got unvented indirect Tempest 300litre cylinder. All this cost me £1850 from local merchant. After checking the internet I think thats a very good price.
Thanks to everyone for helping me out.0
