Txts From 83023 - Warning!

I've been a bit stupid:( got a txt yesterday from '83023' sending me a link to win an Iphone 4, so I put this link in the PC and received 2 txts that said they would tell me if I had won.
Upon checking my phone bill I have been charged £7.50 for these texts , just to tell others not to reply as you will be fleeced!

The only place I can think of where it came from is phones4u as I recently won a comp and gave mine and OH's number in (which he received the same txt).

Has anyone received any of these and will I keep getting spam from them? It says its from 8398 ltd

Thanks

    @LaurensMummy,

    You now have to put things right, by answering the texts you have confirmed your number to the company, 2Ergo. (A company well known for scams such as this) This is the reason that you are still getting texts, if you check your bill you get a shock.

    I have found this info which may be of some help.

    PhonepayPlus has the following information about the shortcode number 83023.
    This is a text message service charged at premium rate. The types of services operating on this number can be ring tones, jokes, games, tarot, chat, mobile internet services (WAP) and more.
    • The costs will vary depending on the nature of the service
    If you would like to find out more about this service you should contact the company listed below.

    To cancel a subscribtion service (services that charge a regular fee - for example £5 per week) you simply need to send a text with the words "STOP ALL" to the shortcode number

    You will see from the link below just how long this scam has been going on and how many people have been scammed.

  • Be careful following the Phonepayplus advice about sending "STOP ALL" - it may just tell the sender that your number is active.

    Better to write to their head office address and say that under sections 4 and 11 of the Data Protection Act you want them to delete your details from their records and opt-out of all marketing communications from them.

    @Mothballs wallet,

    Very good advice, a fact that too many people do not understand but sadly LaurensMummy has already made the mistake and answered the text.
