My wife and I were having a laugh over exactly that the other night. The Groupon ad sounded wonderfully tempting with over 1,000 poor deluded souls signing up, then we checked on Tripadvisor to find out how awful it really seemed to be.

Not only that, it seemed to be cheaper to book direct than through Groupon.

Whilst we're mentioning Groupon/Groupola - they're another bunch of scam artists who got their employees to post on various forums until they were busted on Bitter Wallet:

That's the problem with t'internet. What was meant to be and still is a fantastic resource is plagued by scam artists and unethical companies. If it's on the net it should be taken with a pinch of salt (even my post here could be false). :D

If you look at the Grabbit board, you will see a fair amount of mugs! The amount of blatant self advertising on there that people will still buy from because it is a 'bargain'. If people stopped doing that, hopefully the self advertisers would disappear. ;)

Oh dear, don't think I'll be looking on there then, I will probably just get annoyed! Some people that are normally scam-savvy in real life just seem to be so naive when it comes to Internet deals/reviews, it's a massive shame.

Groupon recently had a 'deal' for a hotel in Marrakech. The reviews on TripAdvisor were mediocre. The morning that the deal became live there suddenly appeared five excellent ratings, one even quoting the exact room size! ;)

My bargepole is still stuck up Grouprons ****

Yep. Groupon=bargepole definitely. It's a shame that Hot Deals and MSE grabbit even post their deals because as far as I can see they are plagued by problems and dodgy dealings. Getting your own employees/friends to post recommendations is very low, but highly amusing when it bites them on the !!! later on.
