Going from house asso to private renting?

14'x7' isn't small by any stretch of the imagination. How have you split it up? Is it possible to cut holes in and put frosted perspex to let the light through? And how high up does it go? Could have nothing, or frosted perspex at the top.beyond_skint wrote: »We have split the room in 2 but my duaghters end is so dark due to no window and its small only 14ft by 7ft I think with help from housing benefit we will be ok they should be able to pay about half.
I would have loved to have got another housind asso house but its just going to happen

Okay, but while you are in this HA property you will be getting points for overcrowding. You will lose those as soon as you move into private rented, so you'll move further down the eligibility list for any social housing.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
no the 14 by 7 is the entire room!! I have put 2 wardrobes back to back to give them their own privacy.0

Bunk beds, then. It's not as if you have a sexually active 18 year old and a 7 year old sharing. There's less than 4 years between them.
The only person I knew to do this moved her 5 children from a small 3 bedroom HA place into a 4 bedroom private house. The repairs are only done when they affect the council house next door's structure, they aren't allowed to decorate, fix things properly, replace the cooker, anything. It is cold, they can't lay carpet and there are no toilet seats.
She regrets it every day.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll

He's pretty liberal and says we can paint what we like as long as its back to neutral when we leave, same as here. Hes put new work tops in and has boiler and building ins. Also is going to put in a new kitchen.
I do have a lot to sleep on tonight dont I.
Thank you so much for taking the time to help me. Its very kind of you all. Not much sleep for me I fear :undecided0 -
could you transfer one of the living rooms into a bedroom. I know it wouldn't be ideal, but then they can both have their own room and you'll still have a shared room to spend spare time.:T:T  :beer::beer: to the lil one

So we have found a house to rent private, but I'm scared to move into private mainly because its double the rent each month. Also I'm worried its not so permenant and it won't feel like our home as much.
I guess I'm asking for some advise, would you do it?
Is there any way we could move with the council ever?
Can we get any money for leaving housing asso?
Has anyone ever done it and not looked back/regretted it?
Many thanks I'm sick with worry and really need someone to advise me what to do
I wouldn't even consider it - you have a secure tenancy and protection, coupled with (I assume) a reasonable rent charge.
Private renting is fraught with potential problems, and I would stay where you are.
Once you leave it, you will have endless problems getting back into social housing.
If you are on Housing Benefit, or might needto be at some point, the rules for LHA are changing soon, and you may now (or, in the future) find that you cannot afford the rent of a private let.
Read some of the threads on this site to see the many problems with the private landlord/tenant - they are many and varied.
Push harder for your transfer, or try to exchange:

You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset.

Hi we only have a small kitchen and small loung theats all the rooms we have plus the 2 bedrooms0 -
I feel it's one of those impossible dilemas - noone can really tell you what to do - your options appear to be to sit it out with a secure housing situation or take a risk - will you be thinking what if? if you didn't go for it? The problems with private rental as has been said is a) the price and b) having to move because the landlord wants to sell, move back in, gets divorced etc etc Only you can weigh up the risks etc. Do be aware that the governement is capping the amount of housing benefit it pays out - someone will be able to help you work out what the maximum is likely to be I would have thought.
