The CSA costs half a million pounds a year to run and is a complete waste of public funds. The government is a trillion pounds in debt and can't afford to go on spending money on squabling parents. The sooner we get rid of the nanny state and abolish the CSA the better.
They need to get rid of benefits full stop....!!! ALL OF THEM...!!!
2.6 million unemployed, yet 3.3 million jobs advertised at any one time, there is NO need for anyone to be unemployed....! If you choose to stay at home, then you need to have the finances to do so...!0 -
BUT for an incompetent agency that is not answerable to anybody, how to they propose to deal with complaints in the service should they arise regarding costing...? If they where efficient to start with that cost would be down to maybe 10p in the £1.... But they constantly make mistakes, have to go over every case at least 20 times and even then they end up paying compensation etc...!!!
The CSA has been running for nearly 20 years under various governments leaders and management. Perhaps it is time to admit that in its current form it will never run efficiently. At the most this would equate to about £80
Don't know where you got £80 from, the official estimate is £220 - http://www.theyworkforyou.com/wrans/?id=2011-10-20b.73321.h0 -
2 hours work in a government agency, based at the costing being the wages of around £8 an hour at the cost behind that being 4 times that again, then that would equate to cost being about £40 an hour, ad you cannot tell me it takes an hour to read an application and print an already standard letter to the NRP... About 15 minutes maybe...!!!
And if ALL the information is passed back, then maybe it takes 30-45 minutes to make sure the assessment is correct, i mean, lets be honest, we can use the online calculator in about 30 seconds, they may need to check some other info, but an hour tops....
Reasonable cost in my eyes....!!!
Now if the case is clerical, or there are issues then yes, the cost inflates horrendously, but they are averaging this across the board and making all the law abiding users of the CSA pay for the the unscrupulous....!!!
If you where having some work done down your road, maybe a roof repaired, and you neighbour was having his replaced, would you be expected to pay for his....??? Or should he pay for his own... This is NO different....!!!0 -

Expected reasonable costs and actual costs are often different. If you where having some work done down your road, maybe a roof repaired, and you neighbour was having his replaced, would you be expected to pay for his....??? Or should he pay for his own... This is NO different....!!!
Your neighbour's roof replacement is not a public service provided for, or subsidised, by the taxpayer. Regardless of how many times you or your neighbour dial 999, the same proportion of your council tax will pay for this public service.0 -
If they wanted to save money they should never of stopped the rule where PWC in reciept of IS only kept a percentage of maintenance.....the rest going to SOS to go back into the 'system', also I think its time CM etc., was taken into account as income when assesing HB and CTB, in some cases the NRP is left below the 'poverty line' after paying CM but is not able to claim anything as Gross/Net pay is above the 'line'.0

Kevin - 15 minutes to process an application? Wow, if only!
A typical application will start with a phone conversation with the PWC when he or she calls to put in application. This alone takes longer than 15mins generally. There will generally be some trace action, as the majority of PWCs won't always have the NRP's national insurance number, date of birth or address, so government records will be checked. If a telephone number has been given the Csa will try calling the NRP, this will usually be three times over two days, at different times of the day. If they've had no joy the Csa will then check credit reference agencies to confirm the NRP address by seeing where he is registered on the electoral roll or where they hold active bank accounts. They will draft a letter which will then be checked by a team leader to make sure the names and ages of the QC are correct, and that the letter will be sent out to the right person at the right address.
There's then a waiting period for the NRP to provide pay slips, if these don't come in the Csa have to contact inland revenue or an employer if the PWC supplied one. Then there's a wait for the employer. All of this time soon adds up.0 -
You get my point though... Time taken and cost involved is well in excess of what it should be for parents that comply...!
And the cost is averaged out across the board meaning the hard to claim from cases are paid for or will be paid for by the people who do pay but can't agree...0 -

This is unavoidable as it is a general purpose service. Whatever charging policy is finalised, elements will still be heavily subsidised by the taxpayer - http://www.theyworkforyou.com/wrans/?id=2011-06-23a.326.10 -

Well said :T
I also think it's hugely unfair for those PWC's on benefits who receive no child maintenance.0 -
If this proposal goes through than I will have no choice but to drop my claim as the PWC, as I am only currently assessed to receive a meagre £5 a week from the NRP.
I did a rough calculation based on the information regarding charges and that would equate to a third of my Child Maintenance being paid directly to the CSA every year. I fail to see how this system is fair to me or my children?
To date since my claim I have only recieved £30 in payments over the last 6 months, so I would be paying the CSA money that I dont have to pursue another NRP who has no desire to pay in the first place.
I am appaulled at this change to the system where in the non payment for services rendered, my children do not receive the meagre maintenance payment on a regular basis and the CSA take the stance that until the NRP accumulates arrears to a three figure some will not even contact them.
If this proposal does get overturned from the lords, it will be a travisty for many familys in the same boat I am in, only awared the minimum payment allowed and still not getting paid.
