We've stayed a few times at one of the sister sites - Twitchen Park, and never had any problems. Places to visit - imo, you can't beat Lynton & Lynmouth, a little way along the coast.
We've eaten at the pub (The Old Mill) which I think is at the bottom of the Golden Coast campsite - decent food and kids are welcome.
Hope you have a good holiday0 -
We went there last year on a newspaper holiday. The chalet was a bit grotty but we didn't pay a lot and it was fine for a base.
I wrote a post on here when we got back, so will try and find it and re-post.
The bus is great. I think it was about £3 per adult per stay, no charge for young children. My son loved it.
There is a pub next door and we preferred this to the entertainment. It has a children's playground and when we were there a live band played - more of a karaoke woman singing to a backing track but she had good singing voice.

I went to Woolacombe and the surrounding area every year as a child so I absolutely love the area-we always camped at Berrynarber. Now I've got my own family we went back to Woolacombe and stayed at Golden Coast when my DS was nearly three on a weekend sun deal. We had a great time staying in a caravan-the view was fanstastic-ok the caravan was slightly dated but it was clean and we went swimming and my son really enjoyed the soft play. We're going to Woolacombe bay for august bank holiday this year-it's a cheap holiday in a beautiful setting. hope you have a great time. My son loved Ilfracombe too watching the boats in the harbour.HSBC Visa-High interest-£2349.23 Nat West £2605.18
My Overdraft-£1500
Barclaycard-1089.77
Marks and Spencer card- 3331.30 next 92.67

Oh dear...
We have booked Woolacombe bay! I did read trip advisor, it looked ok to me-at least compared to most of the other ones in the locations we wanted.
We have got the basic caravan accomodation at the moment. Although, we have an invoice in the cupboard for another £38 to cover 'entertainment' and utilities. Is there a danger we could get a manky chalet then? I remember going to pontins as a child and having a chalet and it was so horrible my parents refused to stay in it. Is it worth forking out for higher standard caravan? We stayed at Devon Valley last september, which also had good reviews, but I thought our Otter (almost top of the range) was a bit pongy and tatty, so not sure if it would be worth it.

Just back from Golden Sands yesterday. We have had a brilliant time. It is just a typical Caravan holiday not amazing accomodation or entertainment but just what children love. Swimming pool in the main club house was great - so so warm and clean (avoid the one on the other side by the caravans its cold unless you are adults only and want to use the sauna and jacuzzi). My 2 and 5 year old girls loved the evening entertainment, the pool, the soft play etc. The entertainment staff were really enthusiastic and played lots of games/dances etc with the children. Childrens time ws 6.30 til 8 pm and really entertained our 5 year old all the children were really enjoying it. One night they had a pj party which the children enjoyed. There also was alot on in the day for the children and there seemed to be lots of children joining in and enjoying the kids clubs in the day too. Although we didnt as clubs were 2-4 and 5-9 years so our girls would have been at different times so not really practical.
Our accomodation was a small basic caravan but was clean and warm and had no problems. Our cot was missing when we arrived and the staff were really helpful and sorted it out for us.
I would recommend the Waves ceramic cafe as it is lovely and great fun. Although a little pricey (plate around £13) but this includes as much paint as you like and getting it fired and glazed.
The bar is v v expensive £6.75 for a pint of guiness and a coke just as an example. We did spend far more money than we would have liked!!
Generally a good time had by all!!:j0 -
Hi, returned from our holiday at Woolacombe bay. We visited the Golden Coast, and were VERY impressed!
The clubhouse/indoor pool/soft play/bowling/amusement arcade were all in one. We used the indoor pool which was lovely. Poolside changing cubicles with a family sized one, which was brilliant. Soft play was good, and bowling looked fun (although we didn't play). It really is an ideal place for families. I was quite amused that the outdoor play area had those old 1980's elephant slide/old woman in a shoe slide that I played on as a child (although they had been revamped) plus new equipment.
I do agree that the chalets looked manky. We would opt for a caravan if we stayed there. The building looked like a small low rise block of council flats, and there was old fashioned chairs (like nans and grandads have) in the windows. But it is just a base after all. Kids would just love this!

Oh, also big on site supermarket that had good deals (£1 honey nut cereals, 2 x kitchen roll £1.25 BOGOF etc) and there was a lovely big toy/gift shop attached to it. Lovely presents inside.
Also, as people have mentioned, the big yellow bus is ace and means you can have a stress free holiday.
