Hooking up to Broadband at a friends house?

Presumably you already use your WiFi. How secure is it? I disable broadcasting my SSID just to make it harder to find. With the broadcast enabled and the wireless adapter active on the laptop, he should see it. Failing that, try an ethernet cable if you have one spare.

No the problem is definitely that we can't turn on his wi-fi. Other people who come to my house never have any problems searching and connecting to my broadband.0

As a last resort, the ethernet cable would be an option, but I can't stand having cables running all over the place0

Under Control Panel, system, device manager, verify that the wireless adapter is listed and functioning.

Unless you are running on N (instad of A, B or G) then the Dell may not pick up your wifi connection0

Hold down Fn and then press F2 - a light should come on. Make sure the dongle is removed first.
If it doesn't work check in device manager to see if it is listed, and that it had not been disabled.0 -

Sorry, I don't understand what you mean by running on N or A, B or G.
For some reason, my broadband connection is now showing and it is suggesting we try resetting my router. Going to give that a try now.......!0 -
