Hooking up to Broadband at a friends house?

Options
Hi

My friend is here and he runs his laptop using a dongle but it's a very slow service.

We've tried to connect him up to my SKY broadband but can't work out how to do it.

He has Windows Vista and his dongle thingy is Vodafone.

Can anyone tell me how to sort this problem?

Many thanks
Terri

Does his/hers laptop have built-in wifi? If not, his/her Vodafone dongle may not be a wi-fi adapter in its own right.

Fail safe is an ethernet cable from your Sky router to your friends' laptop

well you would need a wireless dongle like this or an ethernet cable connected to the router(which i guess you have form sky)
  • Switch the wifi card on his laptop on then click connect to network and input your password, not too sure if his dongle can access wifi networks but if it does then you should be able to to search and connect as it should show as a network card in the bottom right hand corner of the screen.

Thanks - he does have built in wi-fi and we did try searching and connecting to my service but it didn't pick it up. How do we 'turn on the wi-fi card'?

    Thanks

No visible button. It's a Dell Inspiron and it has a picture which resembles a radio signal on the F2 key. We can't seem to activate it though..............
  • It's definitely Function key plus F2 at the same time but it's not switching it on

You press either 'SHIFT' & the radio button at the same time or the 'CTRL' & radio, can't remember which..
You should see a little box pop up on the screen bottom right with the little radio symbol. If the symbol is white, the radios on,if it's blued out,it's off.

ok will try different combinations and the f2 key
  • OK - it is definitely the Function key and F2 at the same time but for some reason it is not working. All the other function and F keys are working, so looks like he has a falty F2.

Does anyone know of any other way to turn on the WiFi card?

    Thanks
