iphone4 bluetooth problem

Hello, I am trying to connect my iphone4 to a tomtom car kit I got for christmas however it wont pick up the device. It also wont pick up my dads phone and when he tries to connect to me, its found me but says unable to connect. I've turned the bluetooth on and off, also the phone on and off, I've researched forums but nothing seems to help. It just keeps searching and searching and never stopping. Has anyone else had this sort of problem?

Thanks for any help in advance

One of the devices has to be visible, one device searches and the other detects, iirc the iphones do not feature all the bluetooth opportunities.

Car kits a right pain. I use to work on the tech support line for Orange and many a time we couldn't get them to work. The kit makers won't supply info to the networks on how their kits work, so we were working in the dark. We used to refer people back to where they got the kit from.

The iPhone doesn't have object push in it's BT stack (the bit of BT that allows you to send/receive files). Apple say that's because they don't want people sharing paid for content. If you JB the phone you can get apps that put it back...
  • thanks for responding. My iphone name comes up on his device so he can see me, just says unable to connect when he tries. I cant get the tomtom to do anything because its just a dock, the instructions say connect to bluetooth and it'll come up on the list of devices, but nothing does, very annoying!! :)

You'd have to make the Tomtom discoverable somehow. Usually hold a button down for X seconds until something flashes. The unit 'should' then be discoverable for something like 60 seconds.

It won't be discoverable all the time, that's not how they work.

With my TT, it searched for my hanset and suggested to apply the code displayed on the TT screen onto the handset when asked, this has worked finewith my last 3 handsets (but none of those are an iphone).
  • ok, thanks to you both. there is a re-set button but thats if you've already found it, I'll try it none the less! thanks again :)

looks like u will have problems:-

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPhone#Audio_and_output

The built-in Bluetooth 2.x+EDR supports wireless earpieces and headphones, which requires the HSP profile. Stereo audio was added in the 3.0 update for hardware that supports A2DP.[34][35] While non-sanctioned third-party solutions exist, the iPhone does not officially support the OBEX file transfer protocol.[45] The lack of these profiles prevents iPhone users from exchanging multimedia files, such as pictures, music and videos, with other bluetooth-enabled cell phones.
