Moss Bros Sale Warning

My boyfriend bought a reduced Hugo Boss jacket (£399) and tried to take it back to Moss Bros the day after he bought it, having tried it on at home properly. Apparently they don't do refunds on sale items, and indeed after looking, you can see they have stamped that on the receipt (not printed). I know we take being able to return things for granted, but this just sounds like terrible customer service to me. They said he could have an exchange within 14 days, but there isn't much in there he could realistically swap it for. Needless to say we won't be buying anything from there again. Be careful if you buy something from Moss Bros, you may not be able to return it!

I believe its his own fault, he had the oppurtunity to try it on, they havent done anything wrong as they have offered an exchange,

Unfotunately, unless an item is faulty the shop is not obliged to refund or even exchange items.
The problem is, as you have said, with shops such as M&S, Next, Primark etc allowing refunds just because 'you've changed your mind' people ASSUME that ALL shops have the same policy.
I disagree that it is terrible customer service, it's just Moss Bros's policy.
I appreciate that it is a lot of money but your boyfriend was at fault for not making absolutely certain of the refund policy before he paid his money.
So I guess your 'warning' ought to read 'Be careful if you buy something from ANY SHOP, you may not be able to return it!'0 -
You're obviously both totally right, and as I pointed out we just expect to be able to return things. I and he will definitely make sure in future that we can return anything if we're not 100% sure about it!0
