Hi can anyone help, have the above receiver, have installed sky + HD/Blu Ray and done speaker set up etc, all fine

have connected PS2 via optical cable, on to optical 1 on the receiver, but nothing is coming up when I switch to Game/TV on the receiver

have gone into set up and ensured optical 1 is set up for game/tv but nothing.

Has anyone else had this problem and if so can you let me know how you resolved this.

Many thanks in advance

Have you turned on 'digital out' in the PS2 configuration.

    thanks
I think you just turn on the PS2 with no disk inserted, and enter system configuration.

  • The optical is only for audio. You need to connect either component, s-video or composite out from the ps2 to the onkyo to get video.

a better question is why you haven't just plumbed you PS 3 into the Onkyo with HDMI ?? .

unless i'm wrong the 606 has four HMDI inputs , SKY and Blu Ray account for 2 .

better idea would be to connect your Sky HD direct to TV via HDMI , then use the optical to send sound the Onkyo Amp. that way you don't have to have the amp on every time you are watching the telly .

i have the 606 bigger brother the 875 and have Blu Ray , Xbox ,+ Sony Media player inputting sound and Vision to the Amp via HDMI . then simply connect Amps output HDMI to TV. it's all 0's and 1's so you get no loss of picture quality .

if you want any more advice i suggest you tell us exactly how everything is hooked up at the moment

DOH  didn't know people still used them

    get a PS3 ??

or like other poster said , Optical is for sound only .

the Onkyo will degrade any non digital picture you plumb through it ( it certainly did with my old xbox when i inputted Component and outputted it via HDMI) . better idea will be connect the visual straight into the telly and then just the optical into the Amp for sound .

been a while , but i remember GTA vice city DTS track on the PS2 sounding pretty good through optical

thanks everyone sorted now, I didn't know optical was for sound only :-(..... have connected the PS2 optical to Onkyo and then via the RGB lead to the tv, bit of a pain as I have to switch from HDMI on tv to AV but at least the sound is coming out of the surround sound, did try to hook the PS2 straight into the Onkyo, but couldn't work out how to do it, suspect I need a different lead ??

no you can do it . but you cannot plug a Scart into the back of the Amp .
cannot remember what actually come out the back of the PS2 . can you tell us what leads are going into your telly . is it a

redx1 green x1 and blue x1 (component ) and a red and white for sound ?

    a red a yellow and a white lead ( maybe going into a Scart adaptor ) ?

S video lead maybe ? probably accompanied by a red and white audio lead .

or just a plain old scart that you cannot pull seperate leads out of ?

    one of these

would appear to give you component outs . component outputs are the next best thing to HDMI , so worth a fiver whatever way you hook it up .

you could plug the Component leads into the Onkyo and assign them to whatever input on the Amp you are using for the PS 2 Optical . you then plug a HDMI lead from the HDMI output on the Amp to the TV . you would need to set various video switching options in the Onkyo set up as well .

personally i would not bother as it will degrade the signal and give a worse picture than plugging in the component leads direct into the telly , it certainly did when trying this with a Xbox 360 .

better bet is to plumb the Component leads direct into the Telly , optical in the amp . i still do this set up with my high end Arcam DVD player but with a Coaxial instead of a Optical for sound . still looks and sound brill
