Funnilly enough, my renewal for McAfee is coming up and I thought I'd be bagging a bargain with their promotion of £25 instead of £50. Thanks for starting this, Kevin - me thinks I'll be going to one of the freebies thus saving myself £25!!! Any recommendations on what free ones people use with Windows 7. Many thanks.

I would. I don't think you have to though. Just don't have them (or any 2 anti-virus progs. running at the same time.0 -
Computer Shopper magazine done a review of 10 or so AV programs in Febs issue, they also bench tested them at how good they were at removing virus, malware etc, from memory TrendMicro came out on top removing 100% of infections trying to access the hdd, Norton and the free version of AVG were close 2nd and 3rd, may have been other way around, norton is £23 1year 3pc's on amazon at the mo, i use Avast 5 free as it uses less ram and slows down laptop and pc less, MSE is ok but i find the need to do regular full checks to clear everything that is throw at my laptop and pc,

Just read "Expert Reviews" Newsletter which reckons that the best free anti-virus is AVG Free Edition 2011. Don't know how reliable their opinions are though.0

sub, I have the free version / the paid-for does have benefits I agree but instead I have installed (in addition to ) the paid-for version of mbam -- it's a one-off payment and lifetime product install :cool:Have you got the free or paid for edition?
