Any customer currently on the old "unlimited" BB packages from O2 are unaffected so can relax. If you have recently signed onto one of the newer packages Basics, All Rounder or The Works... There are a couple hidden terms and conditions that the sales person will do everything to avoid telling you about.

All of the new packages have limitations for downloading using P2P and other high bandwidth applications. They will restrict your usage during their "Peak Times"

Here's the information below. While their customer service is usually great I can't helped feeling miffed that i'm now stick in a 12 month contract and was never told at point of sale this would be applied.

Wont let me link to the O2 webtite. Just type http:// infront of the below link and paste it into your browser to view the info on the O2 website

  • This may be an issue for big downloaders. What is not clear in the posts on the O2 forum and other places is whether it is an issue for those who don't. Myself I NEVER use P2P or iPlayer and have no interest in watching TV on my computer. I view the occasional snippet on uTube but am far from a regular user. Some of the websites I browse have embedded snippets of video, usually ignored. I do though do regular downloads, things like OpenOffice which are sizeable. My monthly usage is around 2GB.

I am on the legacy standard package so the changes don't affect me anyway (yet, they could change their policy....). But would a user like me see ANY issues with the new packages, which on the face of it look sensible. Why should 'normal' users like myself be penalised by the heavy downloaders? Surely that is why they have made the changes.

But as I implicated, all the discussion in the forums is from those who are already in the heavy loader camp who are clearly going to voice their objections.

Obviously you weren't told about their 30 day satisfaction guarantee either then.

If you want to download 24x7 at full tilt you'll find your choice of ISP severely limited as they just about all either employ shaping, enforce download limits, or take the cheapskate option of letting contention do the job which means everybody gets dire speeds during peak times.
  • Fortunately i'm still on a legacy "Unlimited" package.
A big believer in karma, you get what you give :A

If you find my posts useful, "pay it forward" and help someone else out, that's how places like MSE can be so successful.
