internet access on my laptop abroad (canada)

Sorry if this is a very silly question as i am not very technical minded lol!
Just wondering, if i take my laptop abroad (canada specifically) would i be able to connect to my aunts wireless internet whilst at her flat
She has said she will give me her access code and password when i get to her flat, i have built in wireless capacity and use sky broadband at home, but not sure if there is any differences with their connectivity out there.
I did ask my aunt, but she is not sure as she bought a new laptop etc when she moved out there and left her old one here in the uk when she comes back for holidays.
Also should i be able to hop on to their wifi access points at cafes etc with a uk laptop, or would i need to get any special adaptors etc.
I am using her flat as a base but will be travelling around a bit as well, so dont want to just on borrowing her laptop etc.
I would buy a payg dongle, but internet usage costs abroad seem to be really expensive.

Yes you can connect to her wifi network if she gives you the wireless encryption key, or just use ethernet.
Using a dongle on a roaming basis will be extremely expensive-don't do it.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

Canada runs on the same wi-fi system as the rest of the world. If your mobile is tri-band, it should work in most of Canada. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
