Capital One Classic Upgrades

Years ago i had a platinum card 10k i was 21 very silly and had too much unsecured credit went mental and ended up in a mess owing massive amounts!!.

Now aged 32 I have been making steps to restore my credit!.

Last month capital one accepted me after many attempts small limit £200 how long will it take them to change it to progress, one rate or world mastercard?

Years ago i went from barclaycard from student to platinum in about 3yrs? by which time most of my defaults say au revior!

Capital one don't upgrade accounts unfortunately.

Do you have any adverse credit on your file any more? If not, just run the Cap One card for 6-9 months, don't apply anywhere else in that time, and you should be good to go getting a mainstream card elsewhere, or closing your classic card and applying for a progress card.

EDIT: Remember you can ask Sygma for a limit uplift on your card three months after opening it and every four months thereafter :o

Mines a difficult case as in the last 2yrs everything i have opened is all up to date. However 2007/2008 i managed to gain £20k worth of defaults which all fall off in 2013/2014.

Also i have moved alot in that time not staying anywhere long i know they like 3-4 years at one place. My equifax score is real poor 154 but capital one still said yes.

The plan was to leave my accounts open for 3yrs or so then close the ones i don't need then apply. I have a wage £24k pa rent my flat. Yet i notice with the other capital one cards they said about being a home owner? crude of them if you dont pay they can get charging order!!

Hmm yes indeed thanks for explaining your situation.

It seems you have done all the right things, got all the right accounts, and now it is going to be (unfortunately) a waiting game, leaving your existing accounts open (demonstrating lots of stability) and get applying for prime in 2013/14 when said defaults drop off.

Kudos for playing the "credit ladder" game in the right way so far

sad really i had a strong credit record aged 21 than i do now but i still have £15k of it i was gonna offer pay it off but seems daft if it makes no odds if you pay off a default or you don't and it still takes 6yrs. I asked natpest to remove defaults(most of them with) they refused even if i paid in full.

mad credit i have electoral roll from 95 to now but bad defaults she moved in with me took her real dads name(on her birth certificate) instead of her step dads name and she gets accepted for most things. surely the banks realise when someone whos 28 goes on the voters for a couple of months with nothing somethings wrong!

Well you say that, my flat mate is 31 and registered on the electoral role last autumn for the first time since he was a teenager living with parents...

And has since been approved for four credit cards. Despite a whole one month of ER history in the last... well... ever.

Living at an address for a long time, and not ont he electoral roll for that amount of time, and then recently on the electoral roll at age 31, doesn't matter that much. Electoral role is just to confirm the address you say on the form matches what is on the role/CRAs. Length of time on the role doesn't matter, length of time 'living' there is more important.

Hope you get what I mean. :o

This is very true - so long as they match is all that counts. All this talk of must live at address for x years and be on the electoral roll for the same time is !!!!!!!!.

I know from experience and from others that it is just not the case. Why, I know of many who have lived at X address for X years and NEVER been on the electoral roll and still have credit cards, phone contracts and the rest.

So long as there is lots of green zeros and a nice salary, then getting finance is possible.

Totally agree. The only time it *can* be a problem is when you say you've been at your address for say, three years, but there's proof on your credit file of being registered to vote at another address just, say, one year ago.

Creditors see this as the applicant trying to hide potential adverse history at a prior address.

Izools see your signature yesterday, I see your back down to one credit card, nice one thats my plan, just a bit of pain at the moment as barclaycard won't let me B/T my flybe onto their card at the moment, and also now took out car finance, so hopefully within a year I will just have the barclaycard and a small balance on it, gone of the days where I want loads of credit cards as its just pointless at the end of the day expecially if you can manage with just the one..

Quite right, too. The momentum built up as I started being accepted more often and figured a month or two ago "Job done" :o

HSBC still won't give me a Credit Card though, I'll try again in May (last tried 1st Nov after they opened the Current A/C).

Hopefully the fact that my current a/c balance with them fluctuates between #750 and #2,000 will help my credit card app in May. Never gone anywhere near the O/D. If I do get an HSBC Mastercard I'll keep Capital One anyway - as it's good to have one card to repay in full each month and another with a low standard rate.

Pity Barclaycard won't transfer your Sygma card balance - have you tried explaining to them how to do a Manual transfer? Or just no Bal xFer offers on your Barclaycard a/c at the moment?
