If I'm deemed too risky, why did I pass the credit check for a Reward Account which is by their own definition a Premier Account. Surely the purpose of that credit check is to ascertain the risk factor of the customer, what it the point of carrying out a credit check if this is what they are doing? They can be cautious all they want if they would have the common courtesy to communicate their concerns but they chose not to inform me and give me the choice of proceeding or not and instead carried on transferring all direct debits and standing orders over, I now face the nightmare of getting the direct debits, standing orders and salary back to Natwest which will have to be a manual process now.

I have had exactly the same problem with Santander. Opened two Preferred Current Accounts and was going to switch from my main accounts with Halifax and Bank of Scotland both of which have £1000 overdrafts. I was not accepted for overdraft with Santander but I was not too bothered about that but when I received the cards today (electronic use only unembossed) I could not believe it.

I went into branch and asked why I had received these cards - i have a perfect credit history and explained I would not move my main banking to Santander for less facilities than I currently have. The women told me that this was a full visa debit card and that this was the only card issued with their current accounts. I told her she was not making sense and showed her an embossed visa debit card and told her this was a full debit card. She tried to upgrade the card despite telling me this was the only card available now - on her screen I saw MFC Visa Debit and MFC Visa Debit Online. I asked her why she lied to me, I was not given an answer.

Anyway terrible service, I have now closed both accounts stopped the transfers and opended accounts with Barclays today.

I will also be cancelling my esaver and super monthly saver.

    Their loss!

    Regards
    Steven

When did you open the account. They told me last week they don't issue unembossed cards anymore and ordered me a replacement card. If it turns up unembossed i'll be straight in to close my accounts.
    Thanks for your email.
As advised, we do not issue unembossed cards anymore.
If you are concerned you have previously received a card with no embossing on it and you would like it reissued, please let us know and we would be happy to arrange this for you.

I opened the accounts last week. The thing is my partner had a santander account which she closed in april, she had an embossed card.

Be interesting to hear what kind of card your replacement is.

I can almost guarantee what it will be, unembossed. Will go mad for them wasting my time and giving me wrong info.

3 times I asked them and i got the same answer.

Well yo guessed it they sent me a unembossed card. Will be in on Thursday to close all my accounts.
  • I have to agree with everyone on this page; I have a Natwest account and decided to switch it to Santanader, it all went through and in the letter it said they wouldn't match my overdraft. I then called them and cancelled the account, they said all my direct debits would be switched back to Natwest, then the next thing i know, things weren't getting paid for the month. I contacted Natwest and complained to them as i had to personally go in the bank and re-set the direct debits up. Natwest however failed to make any payments, as a result i received £20.00 from Natwest and a case of wine from Santander. My concern is dont switch unless your sure, as you'll have loads of problems if you try and end the process in the middle of it, also i'm unhappy because there are now entries on my credit report from Santander whcih could damage my credit rating, i've been assured that the relevant bodies will be informed, but we'll soon see if i try to get anymore credit
