They will only close it if you requested them to. It would have been asked on the application form for the account

Cancel that santander account now before you get any major hassle from them.

I don't see what the problem is?

The unembossed Visa Debit cards work everywhere? My old Electron card didn't work at Pay at Pumps and Tesco online for example, however my unembossed Visa Debit card works perfectly?!?

It also says Visa Debit on receipts.

Trust me, it's as good as any embossed card.

The problem is on 2 levels

    1. They credit checked me for a product, I passed the credit check, they are not supplying the facililties I have been accepted for, they haven't communicated any issues and they have transferred all my diorect debits from the Natwest account to their account with its limited facilities
    2. The card is an online only card which means if you go to pay for something and the link to the bank is down, you cannot pay for the goods, it also cannot be used e.g to buy tickets on a train or items on a plane, anywhere offline in other words, so it becomes pot luck using that card as to if payment will go through, which im not prepared to risk. My main point about it is, why would I move from a bank which gives me all those facilities to Santander who only provide these limited facilities and why if Ive been passed for the proper full visa card did Santander issue the electron, makes no sense at all. I'm starting to regret the switch but its all but complete now so will be a real pain the neck to reverse if Santander wont sort this card issue out

    There are two possibilites here:

    1. Whoever opened the account simply ordered the incorrect card type and sent you an ONLINE MFC instead of a full VISA DEBIT MFC. This is strange, because we are instructed to choose the card highest up the list as this is the "best" availiable card. Any branch an request an "upgrade" of your card and if accepted they will send you a full MFC in the post.

    2. You were credit searched, and were deemed too much of a risk to offer a full MFC card. Only you could know what this may be?

Surely if I was a credit risk I wouldn't have passed a credit check for a full account. I could understand the issuing of an electron card if that was the case because I wouldn't have been given the full account and just a basic one instead but I've had the reward account opened and even chequebook issued. Can they do credit checks for an account and then make a separate decision on the card type? Surely that makes the credit check a worthless exercise.?
