  • Having viewed the replies the only sensible/cost effective solution would be to buy a new rear box, unless you have a welding set, then:money::money:;)

the clamps i mention maybe cheaper used to sell these in a motor factor, wrap around clamp was about £8.00 exhaust clamp type about £12.00

But the op would still have a dodgy box? or at least one that had had the mount rotted out???;)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

some boxes are fine its just the welds for the hangers, cheap nasty backboxes have really weak welds. if it isnt blowing and is still in relativly good nick, a clamp on hanger will suffice.

    Three options:

    1) Get a wire coat hanger, straighten it out and use it to tie the exhaust to the rubber.

    2) Get a big jubilee clip, undo it all the way, thread it through the rubber then round the exhaust and tighten it back up.

    3) Alternatively, pay for someone to weld a bent bit of metal on.

    Best suggestions yet!!

I'd weld it back on if it were me as I can Weld here and at work.....

If I couldn't I'd be strapping it up with decent thickness wire.

Years ago I just wrapped the exhaust in electrical wire a few times, then a few more loops through the mount on the underside of the car. Got me through several MOTs that did.

This was on a crappy old Mk4 Escort 1.3 so the repair suited the character of the car.

If you have a friendly local independant garage, might be worth asking if they can weld it. I had a similar thing a few years ago, when I asked the owner of the garage how much it would be, he said "just bung the lad a fiver for a couple of pints". Ah, those were the days ......

I would just change the backbox, can't be more than £30 or £40 for a back box for a 2003 Fiesta.

Actually did a quick check on Buypartsby, don't know the OP's car details so checked for a 2003 1.3

£32:75 plus VAT and carriage. After checking the 1.4 petrol has the same backbox.
