Once it dries you will find the excess will just brush off. I will warn you its a bit messy, but stick at it it does work. I would also use the sudacream, just get a small(smaller than a pea) amount on your little finger and going from the corner of the eye smear it down lightly, This creates a barrier making the eye gunk sit on the cream not on the fur/skin.
Also try and keep the fur cut as short as you can under the eye.

As you can see the staining wasnt nice to look at, but now theres hardly any. Lol TJ always has a mucky mouth due to digging and the odd bit of coffee. ( I knwowcoffee isnt good but he only gets a bit.) But as you can see if you really stick at it you can reduce the staining.
RIP TJ. You my be gone, but never forgotten. Always in our hearts xxx
He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog.
You are his life, his love, his leader.
He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart.
You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion.

I'll try that, thank you. I'm a bit too nervous (and so is he) of cutting the hair under his eyes so I'll have to skip that - though perhaps the groomers would do a mini clip there for less than a full groom.

I use a pair of small baby sissors they have a blunt rounded end. If you cut down from the eye its quite easy. try a bit at a time to get your dog used to it.

Is the hair under his eyes thick CFC?

He's pretty hairy Chris, he's half bichon and half westie - but he's a terrible wriggler and I'm not sure how to restrain him, OH could help but still not sure how to keep the head still.

be just like combing and no to worry cutting or poking his eye if you are worried using sissors.

Try it at night when he should be a bit quieter. I am afraid i went down the bribe route, and pile of smallish treats and the sissors. It worked for us to begin with now he just lets me cut.

Just do a a bit at a time if he is anything like TJ he will roll over backwards for treats. Being part Bichon I know he is intelligent so it wont take you long.

How old is he CFC he sounds a cutie, is his hair more like the westie or has he the Bichon (hard work) coat?

Have you got a good groomer? if so they should show you how to do it yourself, mine did.
