anyone recommend a good tear stain remover for yorkie puppy.
i have been cleaning her every day with cotton pad and water , but it doesnt look any better.
have seen some on ebay that says "safely cleans beneath and around the eyes and helps to prevent tear stains, particularly useful for white and light coated cats, dogs and small animals".
anyone used a good product that will do the job?
thankyou in advance

I'm no expert but I would only use sterile water around the eyes as it may make it worse.
If you just keep bathing it hopefully it should clear up. Is it an eye infection? May need a vet to see it if so...Save £12k in 2012 no.49 £10,250/£12,000

I would see the vet, I have had similar problems with my little Sheltie as a pup, in his case the problem was small blocked tear ducts, the vet was able to flush them through under anaesthetic, this has reduced the tear staining and it's no longer much of a problem.
The vet also sold me a bottle of a tear stain removing liquid.0 -
thankyou,
she had a check up with the vet and checked her eyes and said her tear ducts are not blocked, that they do discharge from the eyes when they sleep, "which is brown in colour"
to clean them with cotton pad and water.0 -
Light salt water solution works well.0

Dont bother wasting your money on stuff that says it cleans the eyes. Total waste of time and your money. Believe me i have a white dog and have tried everything. And have a cupboard full of half full bottles that really need binning. Please dont buy pretty eyes or diamond eyes, check the ingredients same as Optex near enough just more expensive.
We now (with Vets ok) use Optex to clean the eyes. 1 cause of eye staining is diet. We found that Burns was one of the worst foods for that. (high oats) As soon as we changed foods the staining cleared up pretty fast.
I do have a recipe for a home made eye cleaner if you would like it, its what the Bichon owners use when they show their dogs. I would warn you its quite messy(I have tried it lol)
To be honest just cleaning the eyes morning and night is enough, you can use a barrier cream under the eye to catch the gunk. ie sudacream is good, just a put a small amount just under the eye in the corner (the gunk wil fall onto that instead of the fur.) It takes a few weeks to notice the Difference. Also keeping the fur under the eye cut short helps.RIP TJ. You my be gone, but never forgotten. I never realised diet could make such a difference!
I may be totally wrong but Mum always claimed that all dogs eyes water brown liquid, but those of light coloured dogs simply water more because of the brightness of their hair refecting the light into the eyes more. Now of course that could be total rubbish?? :cool:XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX:wave:XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX0 -
I will look for couple of before and after photo`s. TJ had real bad staining, and I mean bad. As soon as we changed his food the staining went.
One thing that is noticable on stained eyes is the smell, lol go on have a sniff. Once you get on top of it(the staining) the smell goes.RIP TJ. You my be gone, but never forgotten. i have cut the fur under her eyes as the brown discharge is noticeable there.0 -
Home made eye cleaner.
25ml Optrex
4 tsp cornflour
E45 cream (you have to adjust this to make a nice paste)
few drops of lemon juice (I used about 6 to 8) (Jiff is fine)
Put the paste on, leave it to dry then you can brush off any excess. I did find that it worked quite well.
It is a bit messy but try to work it in well.
We dont need to do anything since we changed foods the staining has gone.
As for the food we use Royal Canin now.
Good luck.RIP TJ. You my be gone, but never forgotten. Always in our hearts xxxHe is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog.You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion.0 -
Chris do you have to wash it off or do you brush it off once dry? My poochie has the problem, vet says it is his tear duct but recommended we didn't go for the op because he is so small, she thought potentially any scar tissue would just make it worse.0
