hi yes my cards are as follows:
virgin £4500 balance £9500 limit
Egg £4000 balance £7000
Barclaycard £4200 balance £4850 limit
halifax £3800 balance £5000 limit.
Ive applied for 2 in the last 6months. The last being today, an MBNA card. Ive always been told that the statutory £2 to experian will give you enough information on your credit score to suffice. Thanks for your help.0 -
If I may say so, that was a poor decision, being as you're already into them for 50% of your £9.5K limit on their Virgin card.nelliejohnturner1980 wrote: »The last being today, an MBNA card.
Before wasting any more application searches check out who owns who here...

You will not be able to get an MBNA card as you already have a Virgin card and they belong to the same 'group'
So the reason for the other decline may be the same if you applied for a card within the same 'group' as any you already have.
Also you owe 13.5k but how much do you earn? If it's not considerably more than this that may also be why you will get refused.
You have some avaialble credit on your Virgin card; have they any offers on at the moment for a 0% deal to transfer one of the other cards to?MFW 2025 #50: £1989.73/£600007/03/25: Mortgage: £67,000.00

You have over £26000 available credit, and you are using £16500. Youve got more than 50% of your salary in available credit, so Im not surprised you are being declined. If I were you, Id be working on getting those balances down, instead of applying for more creditDebt free and staying that way! :beer:0

Yes, YB is right. Who do you bank with OP?
Does ur own bank not offer any BT offers? (Nationwide and Natwest both do for example).
In situation like these ur bank is usually best bet...they also take loyalty into account..0 -

Actually, with MBNA you can have as many as 5 cards.. But the issue here is the high limit on the existing one.
OP already said they earn 35k,..0 -
OP, I note you haven't addressed my earlier post re...
Mortgage, or renting?
Loans?
Financial associations?
If there are 'issues' here, ie hefty mortgage or short term rental, or your partner has significant debt and/or low income then I fear we may all be wasting our time on looking for BT options.
Could you comment on the above?0 -
Very good point about the Virgin card...OP are u sure there are no special offers on offer? Virgin usually offers very good special offers..
But is ur Virgin currently in 0%?0 -
I don't think it's so much the high limit*...more to do with the existing indebtedness to them (and others as seen from the credit search). If the OP didn't have so much debt elsewhere I suspect MBNA may grant another card but insist on swapping some of the limit on the existing card over. But the issue here is the high limit on the existing one.
* I had a £13K Virgin Money card (empty) and they still gave me an £8K Virgin Atlantic card. Granted it was a few years ago but my salary then was less then the OP's now.0 -
Hi YB, my mortgage payments are £410 month.
My partner isnt financially linked to me in any way.
Hope that helps0
