yllas or saariselka in finland are my favs - given that you want to go late in the season you are going to either go high or north so bear this in mind when picking where you want to go0

I've just come back from Macugnaga, where much to my unco-ordinated amazement I learnt to ski. It's a quiet village in italy, that has a couple of ski slopes. It's by no means a ski resort, but it's exceptionally pretty. There's a little village where we stayed, and the ski schools cost about 33 euros for an hour's private lesson. Don't go expecting all night raves or anything, the bars are generally open until 11.30 ish, and there's quite a few good restaurants and bars. It's traditionally quite Italian though and where the Milanese go to ski.
On the plus side, the slopes weren't packed, the ski passes weren't as expensive as France, and for me it was an ideal place to go sliding down a slope on my backside!0
