Because Libre Office is still only a Release Candidate, not RTM yet.
So it is - I assumed that I'd only see the final stable releases in the standard Arch repositories... Cheers for the info.I always find it a source of amusement when I see people rattling on because a FOS/OS project has forked or had some kind of internal political spat resulting in fragmentation.
I guess I haven't been reading Linux websites for long enogh, then! I just saw an article on some "linuxy" blog, and I did read a lot of "people rattling on because a FOS/OS project has forked or had some kind of internal political spat resulting in fragmentation" and assumed that they knew better than I did, and that everyone was moving over to LibreOffice. I got the impression that this was the "default" option, and that you'd need a special reason to stick with OpenOffice. In particular I get a good belly laugh from the 'Why are you still using XXX it has now become YYY because ZZZ has bought the company'. This usually comes from people that any such change will make zero difference to, who will continue to enjoy the hard work of others for free and are unlikely to contribute anything to the project other than 'religious' views on it and the state of FoS in forums and newsgroups. It's a cracker :-)
Do you think it's immoral to have the opinion that the latest Lamborghini is "better" than a Fiat Punto simply because I don't own either and haven't helped to design or build them? Belly laughs, indeed. Look, I have no axe to grind, and I don't really care about the politics of the two development teams. I just want to know which Office suite to use on my netbook where I can't install MS Office.0
