Ryanair new preboarding policy

  • Please tell me you're joking?

Well, I'm actually a very mild passive type of person, so I guess that yes I am joking really. But I wouldn't complain if a family did that. I've had to entertain someone elses three year old on a train, which was not great, so I'd rather they sat with their parents. And I don't see why they should be expected to pay for the privilege when it's in everyone's interest.

Things don't generally change if you just roll over and accept them.

    I've been Money Tipped!
It's not a case of voting with my wallet!! I've never travelled with Ryanair and never will, mainly because I don't travel tht much - 2-3 times a year, but also I hate their policies in general.

I've travelled with Easy and I'm fine with them - went to Pragues earlier this year and saved so much I came back with BA and upgraded for free to Club - lol

Last year when I went to Crete with parents and littlies, we went with some dodgy greek airline that issued our seats to us pre-boarding but then it was a free for all when we got on board!!! So I just stood there until they moved some people and insisted we had the seats on our boarding cards!!!

Normally I'm first in the queue but don't bother when we've got seat numbers sorted as I hate that mad rush for the gate.

And I wouldn't move seats to accommodate a family turning up late.

Wouldn't you, I would. It's not the children's fault if they are late boarding, anything could have happened. The car/bus/train could have been delayed, there might have been a problem at checkin. It's the children who are punished if they can't sit by their parents. I don't see the big deal in moving seats.

When I flew home this summer check-in had managed to allocate the same seat to two passengers. One passenger was sitting there comfortably when a mother and two sons turned up with boarding cards for the same seats. The plane was very full and the cabin crew completely panicked but the solo traveller eventually offered to move so the family could be together.:T I don't think she fancied having two young boys next to her on a 4 hour flight either.

I don't know why the budget airlines don't prebook seats. Surely it would make it easier and stop any hassle.

What I objected to was some of the earlier posts which were along the lines of 'I don't care about all the other passengers and if I don't get my own way I will scream and scream until I am sick'.

Because passengers are thick and take forever to find their seats. It is *much* faster to run it as a bus service.

Yeah but if you saw a nice family not making too much fuss but with youngish children you would move really wouldn't you;)

I find the airlines that are strict with allowing passengers on according to seat number are always quicker to board than those that allow a free for all. What is slow is when they call row 70-90 and people in row 25 etc go up to board and they let them on. Then no-one can move to get past them while they put coats and bags and jumpers in OH lockers.

Its your own choice, no-one is asking you to fly Ryain Air. If you decide to though, you know what you are getting yourself in for in terms of flight experience.

Started a post on Ryan Air ................

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=293322

Be Warned,Eco tax WILL put fares up by aprox £40(all low cost).

It,s a pity that Air Berlin, hav'nt got more routes out of the UK.

    Maybe a bit dearer,but much,much,better service.!

    Happy Hols.

i think most people would move for a genuine late family and small kids ....but not for the family you see get on right at last second, you know whats going to happen as soon as you see the starbucks coffee enter the cabin first, and then without looking into the cabin they strike up a conversation with the cabin crew, and then all the 6 kids and 3 more adults troop in fully armed with chocolate muffins and coffee all wait to be seated together without making eye contact with anyone

im sure if there was a real choice for travellers, ryanair v BA both going to the same destination from the same airport at the same time..along with ryanair being 50% cheaper or something like that ( im not sure what the real statistic is between average fares ) who would really go with BA?

    not me

I think it depends on the total cost, your budget, if it's the one holiday of the year etc, then the flight becomes part of the holiday experience. If the conditions of the flight make you stressed and grumpy and dreading the return flight then you may think it's worth that little bit extra. I know I would pay extra to fly Virgin to Florida rather than TCD.

i can see for long haul its a different matter, but short haul 2-3 hours the only real difference is an all day deli and a drink between BA and ryanair

most of the stress with ryanair is the boarding procedure where the public get sucked into some kind of competition to get on first, along with ryanair gate staff getting everyone in a queue sometimes up to an hour before boarding...this just makes it even worse

if you just chill out...get on last, then you havent been in a queue for god knows how long, no pushing and shoving, and you get 20 mins less in an uncomfortable seat

and after take off..you just move to a blocked off seat that 9 times out of 10 is available

and now ryanair are trying to fleece passengers for pre book seats...this will just make the queue jumping and general ruck so much worse as travellers will be determined to get on first and save money

i admit i like people watching and it really is funny and fascinating how people react in a ryanair gate queue, tempers, !!!!!y comments, and then 15 mins into an early flight 80% of passengers have their mouths open and are asleep

    nowt as queer as folk
