I hate ryanair, but sometimes you have no choice but to fly them. I always get to check-in early, and manage to be near the front of the boarding group, as I like to get a seat by the window, as it kinda helps the budget experience pass a bit quicker with something to look at.
I will always pay extra and go with another carrier if there's one available though!!

We flew Ryanair last week home from Girona and it was relatively hassle free. The outward flight was also to be fair easy going. At Blackpool airport they called families, invalids and online bookers 1st. We got in on 2 accounts! So as we boarded the plane, slide into our seats we were unaware of the scramble for the gate in the terminal.
In all fairness my children are older and can sit on their own quite happily reading. I wouldn't have taken them on a free for all seating before now. i like to keep an eye on them and maybe 1 on other passengers before now!
The checked in luggage has reduced to 15kg but the cabin luggage is still 10kg.

What about the CAA guidelines for families???
    Here

    Seating – family
CAA guidelines ask airlines to develop procedures for the seat allocation of family groups, particularly when a group includes children. It is probable that family group members would seek each other out should an emergency evacuation be required, an action that could adversely affect the rapid evacuation of the aircraft. Children should be seated where they can be adequately supervised by an accompanying adult in the event of turbulence or a decompression in the cabin.

Children, accompanied by adults, should ideally be seated in the same seat row as the adult.

In wide-bodied aircraft, children and accompanying adults should not be separated by more than one aisle. Where this is not possible, children should be separated by no more than one seat row from accompanying adults.

I know it's not a legalilty but does O'Leary throw out the rulebook on everything?????

    Well done and thanks elisebutt65
Every passenger traveling with young children should download and print that page and take it with them.
Dont forget, a lot of airlines, especially those owned by the big 3 travel agents charge families extra to prebook seats together. They are screwing families by worrying them when there is a definite policy laid out by the CAA

The above is all well and good and applicable to BRITISH airlines, NOT to Ryanair who are Irish and regulated by the IAA.

"CAA guidelines ask airlines to develop procedures for the seat allocation of family groups,"

Nothing that says that the procedure can't involve the passengers telling you that they are family group and the airline being able to charge them an administration fee for processing the seat allocation.

And I wouldn't move seats to accommodate a family turning up late.

I wouldn't pay, I'd get on with my young children and then let them re-organise the plane.
