MSE News: Santander customer data still going astray

I'm probably doing this all wrong, never posted on a forum before but I need some advice. We have been receiving someone elses statements for a Santander/Debenhams credit card. Unfortunately the person is in arrears and they are being threatened with bailiff action. I'm sure you've guessed the problem, it's our address on the statement and the bailiffs will come to our address even though it has nothing to do with us. We have contacted Santander/Debenhams numerous times by phone and in writing but they don't seem to be capable of sorting it out. They have told us three times now that the account has been blocked and we will not receive any more mail but we have received another arrears notice this week (16/2/11). We have tried to speak to them again and they have been incredibly unhelpfull, we are still waiting for a 48 hr call-back approximately 120hrs later. We are extremely concerned about this, if anyone has any advice on what we could do to get them to sort it out it would be appreciated. We don't know what else to try.0

I expect someone else is receiving your statements/arrears notices (see my post below). We have been receiving someones for approximately five months and Santander are either in no hurry or are not capable of sorting it out. Have you tried accessing the account they gave you over the phone? I can do this with my credit card, I can get a list of the latest transactions so I know what has been paid or charged. If you can do this you might recognise your transactions and have some reassurance that the account is genuine and belongs to you.0

I would get a solicitor involved asap. Are you sure someone has not scammed your address ?
Also see if you can get the solicitor to get a copy of the application form for the credit card to prove whether your address has been scammed or it is Santander's poor processes again. If the latter you could get some compensation for the hassle they are causing you.0
