I offered to take my b/f away for a few days at my expense, to cheer him up and give him a break. But he says that the terms of his Jobseekers is that he's got to be "available for work" at all times, so isn't allowed to leave town. Not sure if he is exaggerating this?
Also, he won't let me book a weekend away in the distant future (book 12 weeks ahead and get Travelodge cheapest rates) "in case" he gets a job by then, and that job involves working weekends, and the hotel rooms would be non refundable.
i believe he can go away for a weekend or a long weekend but he would have to tell the JC to stop the claim then do a rapid claim(might want to double check as ive not done before) when he gets back but is it worth it for a weekend ? i guess it is,
i can understand why he doesnt want you to book a travel lodge at some time in the future,0 -
I've missed you stew!
I know that it's hard not to feel down but please try to think of the positives about yourself. I'm sure that your perfect job will come along soon and just remember that we are all in the same situation and we are all here to listen to you moan whenever you feel down.0 -
Was working today in a very tall building... never done that before. Had a great view of the Thames and the city, but the work was silly. They were so unorganised for a large company. The system I'm using is rubbish
It's only for a week and better pay than my other job, so will have to put up with it. The atmosphere isn't !!! friendly either, it's a big open plan office which I am really not use to. They had ITV1 in background, so had to listen to crap daytime telly and the Go Compare man occasssionally.
I think I'll be trying to stick to the smaller companies from now on... unless I'm on location
Looking forward to mid next week when I'm back at my other job.0 -
The biggest question I have is this one: HOW COME there are millions of intelligent hardworking clever capable people on the dole, yet whenever I have to deal with a govt department, local council, NHS, I come face to face with stupidity, laziness, rudeness and incompetence at every turn? They habiltually lose things, forget things, give the wrong information, etc.
How come all these kinds of people have managed to land a job, and keep a job, even though they are rude, incompetent, etc?
Do you know I find myself asking this every day. I am noticing it more and more. People in jobs who are very unpresentable and untidy who look like they haven't washed their hair for a week, to people who seem totally uninterested in what they are doing.
I was in the office of the local paper the other day and there was a girl behind the desk who had obviously just started the job and being trained. I was narked cos for one thing I never even seen this job advertised anywhere, and for two, she looked totally unenthusistic and disinterested in what she was being shown. And I just thought I can't even GET an interview, how in the hell did you get one and get offered the job!!'If honour were profitable, every man would be honourable' Thomas More

Do you know whats getting me down most of all in all this? The fact that when you do apply for a job 99% of them don't even have the common courtesy or decency to respond to your application. A thanks but no thanks letter is better than being completely ignored like you don't exist. You take the time to apply to work in their company, the least they could do is acknowledge the fact.'If honour were profitable, every man would be honourable' Thomas More

I agree!!
I'm feeling really angry at the moment, angry at the country, angry at whoever caused this mess. I've just been reading about yet more redundancies. It is a complete joke. And nobody is helping us.
I was watching One Born Every Minute last night, getting more and more peed off that I am unable to plan for things such as having my first baby, buying my first house because my life is on hold, all because some idiots in suits messed up our country.
It isn't fair!
Rant over. Morning everybody0 -
The other thing I find depressing is, I love having short breaks away (on a budget!) and that has had to be knocked on the head now.

I know what you mean regarding booking anything far ahead because his situation might change. How i could do with a break!!
But if you want a few days away in this country that should be fine. He just needs to fill in a holiday form at the Jobcentre. He needs to put down an address/contact number and be available to go to an interview if they phoned him up. If he is away on his signing day he needs to contact them when he returns and then they can arrange for him to pop in and sign on. But remember his money will be dealayed until he has signed on. So he would be paid three days after he actually signs on.0 -

I also agree with you both. I too am so angry with the person responsible for all this mess.
I've written my covering letter explaining my uni situation which I'll now include with every application. Be interesting to see if it suddenly starts getting me interviews. Also hoping I'll hear from the school I want to do voluntary at today. Was told by the Headteacher last week that she would call today after yesterday's staff meeting to let me know what day's the staff would like me there to help. It may be unpaid but it gets me out of the house and doing something I love.Saved: £1566.53/ £20000 -

I am in such a bad mood today. If I was to bump into David Cameron or Gordan Brown I could kill!
Duncan Bannatyne was on twitter this morning, going on about how much he loves his life and how great it is. He got a mouthful from me as well!
Why does nobody care about us????0
