    Good morning all.

First application of the day done and it's not even 8.30

The sun is out and I am feeling positive. I think I have got over my shock at last week now, and I have just got to get on with it. I still cannot believe I've gone from having 2 job offers to none, but what's meant to be will be.

Just a tip for anyone who is looking to work in a school. On Thursday I emailed every school in the local city (local council had a list with email addresses on their website). I explained I was looking for work as a teaching assistant, and had heard many vacancies go unadvertised and I did not want to miss out on a opportunity. I am surprised how many have actually bothered to reply. Although none of them have asked me to run round there and start working :o I would say the majority have said they will keep a copy of my CV on record should vacancies arise. A lot have explained they are struggling because of tight budgets. My thoughts are that if they already have a potential applicant saved in their records they may choose to contact me if a position becomes available, rather than waste time and money with the whole advertising process.

Anyway, good luck everyone with interviews this week. I'm hoping for great things this week.

Good luck with the schools applications, I did this but only had one reply back saying no vacancies at present, the others did not even bother replying back :(

Lexilex I've used the outline of your email if that's ok? I've changed it to suit me and have got:

    Dear Sir/Madam

My name is xxxxx, and I am wanting to train to be a Teacher. I am awaiting an interview at Edge Hill University to start a part time programme in xxxxx from September which would allow me to work around studying.

I am writing to you today to enquire about possible teaching assistant vacancies you may be recruiting for at the moment or in the near future. I have recently learned that many roles go unadvertised, and I am keen to avoid missing out on any possible opportunities.

I am looking to progress in my career of working with children. I have had experience of working with Nursery aged children both in a permanent position and on supply. I have also worked as a Creche worker which involved setting up and running crèches within the local area. I've also gained experience of working as a Supply Teaching Assistant and have volunteered at two local schools.

I have attached a copy of my CV. I appreciate you may not be recruiting at the moment, but I would very much appreciate it if you could consider me should any roles arise. I also understand you may not accept CV’s as a way of application, and I have no issues with completing an application form should this be required.

    Many thanks for reading.

    Kind regards

I've already done a year at uni but the uni wasn't right for me but I don't think I should mention this should I? I sometimes wonder if that's going against me for some reason with jobs. It's on my CV that I've done that year otherwise I would have a huge gap. I did have one employer phone me (a school) to see if I was still at uni before offering me an interview. I explained the situation and got an interview but no job. The only other interview I've had seemed put off by the fact I'm going back to uni as I'll have to do placements. (That was for a nursery) I feel doomed either way.

Great thread. I wish I could find a way to help my b/f, in five months of 7-days-a-week searching he's only mananged to get one interview. Most of the time his online applications are rejected within hours. He's feeling increasingly rejected, useless and depressed. How does anyone keep their spirits up?

That sounds fine to me. I don't think I would mention the uni thing as it's not really relevent and you have already mentioned about starting again in September.

I've had a reply from a school this morning telling me they are have a maternity cover position they are recruiting for and asking me to complete the application form. I would have never known about it if it wasn't for email so I am really chuffed.

I do think it's a hard thing to get into, with lot's of parents applying for roles because of the hours. I've applied for lot's of TA positions since last summer, I've had two phone calls but not managed to get a single interview!

Ok I'll leave it out, it's on my CV anyway if they want to query it then can always just contact me.

That's great news! Well worth taking the time to do. There's another job within half an hour drive that's available so I'm emailing them now for an application form.

I hope you don't mind me butting in :o the bit I have bolded above isn't grammatically correct, I'm not normally this anal but if it's something you're sending to employers I thought I'd just say... I'd go with something like "I wish to train to be a teacher" or even just "I want to train to be a teacher".

It's not easy and I'm finding it difficult this time around (have just finished a temp job recently) but having a day or two off when I'm feeling really down has helped me be more positive for the rest of the week in the past. I hope he finds something soon!
Just because you made a mistake doesn't mean you are a mistake.

No I don't mind at all, thank you for pointing that out, I shall go and change it :)

Any suggestions on a good title for the subject box?

It's hard, I find it hardest if there's nothing around I can apply for or if I've been rejected from something I know I'd be good at (like in my post today) I just keep trying to think that it's not meant to be if something doesn't work out, although even that's wearing thin now. I think it's best to take a couple of days break sometimes. I'm also finding that not searching all day every day like I used to helps as you just end up feeling down.

Get him to come and join us! The first few weeks were horrendous, I felt such a failure, like I was the only person unable to find work. It is great to be able to talk to others in the same position, and it is helped me realise it's not me that is the problem, there just simply are not enough jobs to go around.

I would suggest taking weekends off, there's nothing really advertised anyway and it's nice to have two days to have a break from it all, without missing out on vacancies.
