Yeah if your wifes claim is still running this will be where there is difficulty with you making a claim. I think the child benefit can be switched over but for tax credits its not just as simple as changing the name/bank details you will actually have to make a new claim which means the existing claim needs to end first.

Sorry to hear of your traumatic situation.
Please go to your local Citizans Advice Bureau. Phone up and make an appointment, so you don't have to make two trips.
Let them take the worry out of your situation, make the phonecalls etc. You just don't need the hassle, and they can make things happen quicker than doing it on your own.
