I dont think any should be called sturdy or generously sized either, if they all had measurements it would save a lot of bother, they don't have skinny or runty kids clothes, so why label the larger sizes?

I rely on the sturdy fit trousers and jeans from innovation...not because youngest is chunky but because they suit his touch problem, he doesn't like the material being close to his skin but buying a larger size doesn't do it as then they are far too long and he gets stressed over trousers being altered too!
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

I don't find the definition of sturdy as a negative or derogatory word - just descriptive of my son's shape. He is not fat, but very broad across his waist and shoulders (always has been - even as a baby he took nappy sizes 2x bigger than his age!) and am grateful that there is someone out their who makes clothes in realistic sizes that actually fit!

    STURDY
    def. Oxford concise dictionary
strongly and solidly built or made.
    Confident and determined.

    Penguin thesaurus
strong, powerful, brawny, muscular, strapping, stalwart, robust, hardy, lusty, hale, hearty, healthy, vigorous, sound, solid, stout, tough, substantial, durable, firm, staunch.

However, if the trousers were listed as fat or outsize, themull1, I would totally agree with your point. :)

I have recently bought jeans from him at Gap who size the larger fit as Husky!
    £2012 in 2012 = £34.44

The person who gave me the additions link, do you know if the elasticated waists stop at a certain size?

The m & s ones, are they their standard range, or do they say 'generous fit' too? Our m & s is small (and rubbish) but I could get to a larger store if need be.

Hi, that was me.. I'm not sure as I bought age 6.. but they do free returns, so you could order & return if no good.

I found the BHS ones not that generous, and still snug on my son's legs. He's not really big etc, but has what I'd call rugby players thighs!

Yes, that's my son's issue. He was actually doing well at rugby probably due to his shape but packed it in cos he moaned it hurt his (flat) feet! He is within the weight/BMI index for his height, albeit at the top end.

I intend taking him to Next shortly so he can try some on -if they have any, much to his disgust as he hates shopping. Otherwise I think I'll order from the place that gives measurements. At least if I get a pair that fits, I'll be able to use that as a starting point, to try other places too. :)

    Thanks for everyones help.

I went to Next and explained the problem and they gave me some age 12 plus trousers for him to try- they didn't fit, could only get them half way up his legs. They offerred to order some, but i said I didn't know where to start with what age to order, so they got their tape measure out and compared his measurements to the ones in their book, then they suggested he try on age 16, which were one of the few sizes they currently have in stock and they fitted. They are a little loose round the waist, but nothing a belt wouldn't sort out, and he says his big thighs hold them up anyway. Miles too long, so will need taking up.

I'd have never have thought of going as high as age 16. _pale_ even one of the sales assistants said she'd never have guessed/suggested that size just by looking at him.
