Whats the clunking noise?

Hi everyone, I have been driving my Ford Fiesta around and its started to make quite a bit of noise! Sometimes it quiet, but when Im driving over bumps or on an uneven road it starts clunking. Ive got it booked for an MOT on the 8th Feb and wondered if this would make it fail? If so, would like to get it sorted beforehand. Im thinking it may be the suspension. If it is what would be a rough cost of getting this fixed? Any help would be appreciated :)

Probably track rod ends, worn drive shaft or wheel bearing. Is there any whining noise for that side?

I suspect the track rods and on an average car you'll be looking between £100 and £200 + VAT

  • Where the hell do you buy your track rod ends from

the last track rod ends i bought were 6.46 each

Yes, fair enough, but most normal people have to pay to have them fitted and seing as the op doesn't even know what one is, I would imagine they fall in that group :)

if your paying that, i'll fit them for you!!!!!! at that price.

track ends varie in price dearest ive seen is £12,99 a side.

take wheel off about 3 - 5 mins max undo track ball joint bolt split from hub undo lock bolt on track end, unscrew, replace put back on wheel. what about 20 mins per side if you stretch and drink a cuppa between fitting!
  • i will fit them for you for £30 i can do mine on my car with out taking the wheels off its a bit of a grovel but i can do it

1 nut to undo and then twist it off the track rod - i even tipex which thread it was up to so the new one is in roughly the correct place then I get the tracking done some other time

On our avenue, it's frowned upon to even look under the bonnet let alone start stripping wheels off :rotfl:

Twenty years ago, I was swapping engines in Cortinas LOL

  • every tim ei do work on my car i alway mean to go to a garage and ask for a price so i can add up what i have saved over the year

i imagine it would be a huge amount infact i dont think i would have 3 cars on the go if i had to use garage i simply wouldnt be able to afford it.
I know i did a cam belt and vauxhall quoted £720 I did it my self £56 belt and pulley kit and probably 1 hours work max. so thats a £664 saving and thats only one item

We had a Rover where bits were always falling to bits, breaking and shearing off.

I managed to fix the MAF sensor, the electric windows when they fell in the door, the heater resistor, the reversing sensor, the clock, the turbo pipes........oh how I miss it.

I do know how to fix cars as my family ran on a break fix system with Cortinas, Stradas and Cavaliers LOL
