6-month internet?

Options
Hi,

I'm looking to move out of rented accomodation into another rental place but only for 6 months at most.
My old provider O2 havent got coverage at my new exchange (Nottingham Longbow - EMLONGB) so I've cancelled them but really need the internet for work at my new location.

Are there any good options out there for 6 months or would it simply be worth suffering the cancellation charges on a 12-month contract? Moving it won't be possible as this is only a stop-gap prior to moving in with the girlfriend (fingers crossed!) and she already has Virgin I believe.

Virgin or Sky seem like the most favourable options so far and I already have a Sky TV subscription. Sky costs £235 a year and Virgin £220 both - that includes free months, cashback on Virgin @£65 and includes line rental.
Looking at IDNet and Vivaciti as well but they cost £262 and £268 respectively although Vivaciti appear to be very good at hiding their full prices!

Any advice would be appreciated!
Thanks!

IDNet do a 30 day contract, so where do you get that figure for 6 months from?

The monthly cost of £35.73 for their Home Pro internet and phone line. Multiplied that value by 6 as I'll be using the service for 6 months. I then added the setup cost of £48.
I understand IDNet and Vivaciti are 30-day contracts but I'm looking at the 'real' cost of having the service for only 6 months - including any setup charges, cancellation charges, line rental etc.
  • How about Plusnet.

    From their website "
    No ties

Want broadband but without a contract? Simply pay for your router up front, or use your own if it's compatible. You've then got the freedom to leave at anytime."

That sounds like what you want.

You can even have this on their £6.49 a month deal but that may well be a bit limited for you. The £11.49 a month package is possibly more realistic.

Personally I've been very happy with Plusnet.

Another thumbs up for plusnet - use your own router and its £6.49 with 10gb allowance or £11.49 for 60gb plus £25 activation fee (not charged if you also take thier phone)

If you are referred by a current customer they also benefit from the deal - as "Im just careful" got in first you could ask him/her to refer you.

Must admit I wrote Plusnet off as they were bought out by BT but worth checking out to see what the cost would be.

Thanks and if I do go with them I'll give one of you a ref of course.

I've just done my costings and do have to admit that Plusnet are looking the better option - with cashback and line rental etc all considered the total cost for 6 months would put Virgin costing £199.35 and Plusnet at £127.50. I'd need to get a wireless modem but a non-issue for me as I'm a tech-geek.
Virgin cable with their speeds would be nice but at a premium when it would be easier going with Plusnet and I keep a phone line which although rarely used is always nice to have.
    Thanks fellas. :o)

Out of curiosity what gain does the referral get? And if I go via TopCashBack (as I plan to) can the referral still be done?

The referral fee is usually 50p per month - but currently have an offer with 3months broadband free per referral.

    Thanks for all the help.

I've offered 'im just careful' the referal as they got in there first but if I don't get an answer in a day or so Squinty I'll let you know. The 3 months free for both people makes it the best option really for me - down to £93 + the cost of a modem!
