From reading that the corner shop only has to provide a price to the consumer, it can be at the till.0

Agreed. It only stipulates that 'where a trader indicates that any product is or may be for sale to a consumer, he shall indicate the selling price of that product in accordance with the provisions of this Order'.Best Regards

Thats a good point, but some shops cover the customer side of the till so its not possible to see prices as they are being scanned, and dont give you a reciept either. Then you only get told the total verbally, thereby having no idea what you have been charged for individual items.
I raised a related issue a while ago on here, wondering what the legalities of this were of 'hiding' the cost, and just got the usual pedantic replies.

Anyway, back to the op..From my understanding of the OP its not clear what the real issue is, were they short changed, were they charged more for the item than displayed, or did they buy it from a really expensive corner shop and the OP just feels it was overpriced? Maybe more specific details are required before jumping the gun.0 -
I would suggest taking your calmest, most level-headed head back to the shop and saying "guys I think someone made a mistake, I came in yesterday for x, y and a pint of milk and was charged £z. X and y cost £(z-1.77) from the price labels, meaning I paid £1.77 for a pint of milk - that can't be right, surely? Did someone charge me the 4-pint price instead by accident or something?
Most shopkeepers will genuinely want your business and want to rectify any errors and for you to come back again, so give them a chance to sort it out. If they refuse to, then is the time to get upset, but give them a chance to make it right first. And in the future if you are wary of that shop, ask for a receipt before they start ringing things through!0 -
In all honesty is it really any different to being charged £1.50 for a 1/4 litre bottle of water at Heathrow airport or £1.20 at a motorway service station when you know you can get the same for 40p from Tesco?
Provided the retailer in question doesn't have a monopoly and is using this to screw the public, they are trading in a free market and can charge whatever they like.0 -
Why are you crying now over spilt milk0

I totally understand what you mean, but from the OP im still not clear if they realised the cost of the milk before buying it.0
