So did you go back and check whether there had been a mistake o whether or not that was the price for the milk? The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

Unfortunately I don't think there's much that you can do in this case, they're entitled to charge whatever they want. The best thing you can do is scrutinise the till as the items are being rung up, and checking your receipt before you leave the shop.
If the milk was labelled with a different price, then that's a different scenario entirely. Traders can be fined £500 for every incorrectly priced item in their shop. This website should help you a bit;http://www.consumerdirect.gov.uk/after_you_buy/making-complaint/how-to-complain/
.
Sadly, this board seems to be habituated by immature NEETs, hence the idiotic posts above. Please don't pm me asking to eat me because you are hungry.

Retailers can also withdraw a item for sale. They don't HAVE to sell it at the price listed.
Also vote with your feet, really its a non issue, shops can charge what they want for what they sell, if you don't like it don't go there.0 -

You're right, they don't; the price label is only an invitation to treat.
However, the Price marking regulations make it an offence to incorrectly label an item, or to not label an item at all; and the fine like I said is a maximum of £500 per item. Please don't pm me asking to eat me because you are hungry.

Firstly trading standards etc will allow companies to make mistakes and secondly when was the last company to be fined £500 for one item? The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

Not sure why you've adopted a confrontational tone here, it doesn't help.
Yes, trading standards will allow companies to make mistakes, and indeed they will probably not ever bother prosecuting a corner shop. The fine is a deterrent; I'm arming the OP with the knowledge to challenge a trader who tries to pull a shifty one and change their price. Please don't pm me asking to eat me because you are hungry.

Wasn't meant to be confrontational so apologies if it came that way but the fine is a rubbish deterrant.
It will take several warnings of mispricing before it gets to the fining point....look at the supermarkets, constantly wrong. The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!
