Good to see a happy ending! :D
  • I don't see that as a happy ending, as the builder has now won 2 free credits (and got a refund) purely by intimidating a potential customer.
  • Hi.

I find the whole thread a little sad and disturbing. How did we all arrive at this bitter and twisted approach to getting work done.

I don't think anyone came out a 'winner'

surely you are not defending the builder in any way?

    or even the website?
    Get some gorm.
  • On one hand you should credit the site for dealing with the issue on behalf of the customer. However, on the other, the manner in which they have done so is questionable. As someone who owns a small construction company I believe that the builder should have been prevented from ever using the website again due to his arrogance and bullyboy tactics. To even assume that he can conduct himself in such a way shows his true colours - he has probably done this before and will probably do so again!

In my opinion, Rated People can only regain some credibility by throwing him out. (must state that we do mostly commercial work so I have never used this site!)
  • If you go to RatedPeople, you expect not to be contacted by people like that...to allow him to continue to trade, just completely goes against what the website should stand for, and thus don't think I'll be using them now...can you leave negative feedback?

    Hi.

    And so it goes on...

It might have passed you by, but the builder in question has no means of presenting his side of the story.
You are basing your opinion solely on the experience of one person on an anonymous internet forum.

Yes you can leave negative comment.
I hope Rated People vet the complaint before destroying a tradesperson's reputation, which may or may not be deserved.

As long as the money keeps coming in Rated People will not pursue matters too vigourously.

I have seen jobs posted which clearly break Gas Regs.

Sites like rated people don't give a damn, they don't vet any of the tradespeople, so any cowboy can sign up and treat customers like c rap. They are only interesed in the money.

As someone above said the builder in this case should not be allowed to use the site again, and should not have got refunds/credits for his appalling behaviour.
  • I would be tempted to post the persons name to warn any future potential targets.

I think you will find people are basing their opinions on copies of the emails sent by the builder who was trying to bully the OP into paying £200 for providing them with a quote. The builder's 'side of the story' seems quite well covered in the emails he sent demanding payment. IMHO.
