if thats the quality of his reply, then i wouldnt worry too much about him seeking any legal redress.

    Ditto.
With that attitude he would probably have ripped you off anyway. You've told him where to send any future correspondence. Don't communicate with him any more, just keep what records you have.

I've just replied to him, basically saying everything from my post #28. I'm hoping it just a misunderstanding on behalf of the trade warehouse and this will clear up that I have not gone behind his back, far from it. I would never use that warehouse the salesman was so full on and pushy, I really hate that it makes me feel very uncomfortable.

Don't worry about him, he'll go away assuming he's capable of getting a job somewhere!

Why on earth would he have given you his trade account details in the first place?

    Hi gas4you,

The Builder didn't give me any of his account details, he just told me I would need to tell the trade warehouse who my builder was to gain entry, which I did.

What I don't understand is, Is it really that unusual for builders potential clients to want to have a look/feel of the bathroom suite first, rather than just selecting from a small photograph from a warehouse catalogue and hope for the best? I wasn't trading with the warehouse at all I only went to see if I could squeeze into the shower cubicle, as measurements written down mean nothing to me :/

This post is cracking me up. If he e-mails again tell him to stop or you will go to the Police and report him for harrasment/ extortion. He has no right at all to charge for a quote and can not bill you after when he did not inform you. Contact trading standards sounds like a right cowboy and I hate to think if he has ripped anyone else off

Just received the following email from Rated People.

I am so relieved to hear good news. Rated People have resolved this difficult issue in a highly professional manner that is a great credit to them and the service they offer.

I would also like to say a very big thank you, to everyone here on MSE who has taken the time to share their advise and who's collective response has helped me to achieve a successful outcome to my problem.

    Thank You :)
    Dear XXXXX
    Thank you for your email.

We have tried to call you, but unfortunately there was no answer.

We are really sorry to hear that you are experiencing problems with a tradesman from our service, as we pride ourselves on helping you to find great tradesmen to complete your work.

When you submit your requirements onto our website, each tradesperson that expresses an interest in your work should provide you with a free quote, so that you can decide whether they are the best tradesman to complete your job for you. Rated People do charge tradesmen a small fee in order to provide you with a quote, but we expect that they work this price into their quote, and that they do not charge this to you (irrespective of whether they win the work).

We apologise if the actions of XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX have caused you any distress, and find it really unusual that the tradesman stated he was going to charge you £200.00. We can see that you have sought advice on this matter, and are pleased to see that the community at www.moneysavingexpert.com have been supportive and provided you with their thoughts on this situation.

After receiving your email, we have since contacted XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX, and discussed how our service works. As a goodwill gesture, we have refunded the money that they paid to obtain your details, and provided them with two credits (providing them with the opportunity to contact two future customers free of charge). As a result of this action, we’re pleased to confirm that XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXhas agreed to waiver the invoice for £200.00, and he no longer expects payments for any services provided.

We hope this is a satisfactory conclusion for you, and suggest that your online peers at the MSE forum may appreciate an update on the situation.

If we can be of any further assistance please feel free to contact us.

    Kind Regards,
