You just need to tell the Tax Credits office the truth and take it from there.0 -
Please go to CAB today or tomorrow. You need their support and advice.0

It is fraud I'm afraid, as you have knowingly claimed the money for over a year. You put yourself in this position and now you have to own up to it, as Littlemissteapot suggested go and see the CAB and see what their advice would be. I would then call the Tax Credits office and tell them the truth."Organic!! I grew up on Angel Delight..." - Dylan Moran0 -
Of course it's fraud. You've been fraudulently claiming taxpayers' money to which you are not entitled.
It's all well and good trying to backtrack if it's a month or two, but you've been committing fraud for well over a year.
Be prepared to be prosecuted and ordered to repay the money.0 -
This will be difficult for you as you had the opportunity in April 2010, when you're claim was renewed, to declare whether anything had changed since your last award, and obviously took the decision not to do so.
You do not mention the situation with other benefits you might be in receipt of. Potentially, when you lost your job, you could have legally been entitled to housing benefit, council tax benefit, jobseeker's allowance.
A specialist benefits adviser can prepare you for the possible outcomes and help you through the process.“Verified Representative

While on this other thread of yours,
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2963070=
you were obviously (going by the answers received, as you have deleted the original post) looking to go on a singles holiday abroad?
Sorry - but if a week ago you were looking to book a holiday abroad, no doubt paid for by fraudulently gained tax credits, you weren't 'in need' of them to survive either - you were living beyond your means and committed fraud in order to do so.
You should be going to CAB immediately for advice on how to best deal with this - and being honest with TC's will be a good starting point.
How much have you claimed? I think there is some guidelines about amounts vs. punishments and minimum requirements of what they have to do.0 -
Why do people describe a criminal offence as being "silly"?0

You sure you know you have 'done wrong?'.
You have committed fraud and will now have to admit to it and accept the consequences of your actions.0 -
