Train refund for replacement bus service?

Unfortunately i doubt you will receive a refund of any monies, at all. The best you can hope for after stating your case to customer services, i would say, would be some vouchers towards future rail travel.
Unfortunately, i'm not 100% sure, but most toc's sell you a ticket to travel from A to B, regardless of how you get there. So if they provide a replacement bus service to your destination, they've fulfilled their contract to you. Likewise, most people expect a seat on a train when they have paid for their ticket, especially if they have paid £100's for it. Not so. You have paid to be transported from A to B, and if you have to stand all the way, then so be it. Of course, if you've reserved a seat on a train, you stand a better chance of claiming a seat, but again, its no guarantee, if some one is sat in your seat and you can't persuade them to move.
Its worth the price of a postage stamp, if you fancy some travel vouchers, but i would'nt hold out much hope for anything more.Debt free - Is it a state of mind? a state of the Universe? or a state of the bank account?

In this case the rail company doesn't appear to have fulfilled this obligation as they only transported the passengers to Hendon when they had tickets to Kings Cross.0 -

Just post your tickets to the appropriate railway company with a Royal Mail Certificate of Posting. Most of the railway companies will provide you with a freepost address. If they don't, insist that they refund you with the postage costs in the form of Rail Vouchers. Also scan the tickets and any letters into your PC and forward them via email to the relevant CEO of the railway company. Most of their email addresses can be found at http://www.connectotel.com/marcus/ceoemail.html.
If the railway company denies receipt of your refund request or tickets, just use the Royal Mail Certificate of Posting compensation scheme to get your money back from Royal Mail; up to a maximum of £41. If you exceed this amount, try splitting your claim up so that you post multiple claim forms. You will need to provide them with copies of your scanned docs and emails as evidence.:)
I dont know if this would work?
the out of date tickets have a value of £0 really
you would be talking about a consequential lossIf you need to send valuable items (e.g. cash, jewellery, tickets & vouchers) use our Special Delivery™ 9.00am service or Special Delivery™ Next Day service which provides compensation for valuable items. If you send items from the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man, there are slightly different compensation arrangements. Please contact your local sales centre on 0845 7950 950 for more details.0 -

Under National Rails Conditions of Carriage (see http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/system/galleries/download/misc/NRCOC.pdf),
any unused rail ticket has to be refunded by any train company as long as it is returned no later than 28 days efter the expiry os the ticket's validity. As the OP travelled after Xmas, he is still well within this timeline. However, the ticket(s) will need to be unclipped and unstamped in order to get the refund. The OP may also be charged a £10 admin fee.:)0 -

Thanks for clarifying.
I will contact Royal Mail and find out. As soon as I have an answer, I will post an update on this thread.
I have not needed to use the COP compensation for rail tickets as the railway cos have always got my tickets without any probs.0 -
Sorry to come to this thread so late, but I am horrified by some of the advice given here. Trying to claim a refund for a journey that you have actually undertaken on the basis that you never took it, whether or not the ticket has been clipped, is FRAUD, and is a criminal offence. Surely it's not worth risking a criminal record for the sake of a few quid refund?0

Welcome ploddie and my apologises for the bit of sarcasm above
Anyway unfortunately it is a public forum where everybody has a right to post and sometimes these posters post to get a reaction, which a certain poster(s) on this thread has done and on other threads.
Not going to name names but just do a search of their previous posts and you'll see what I mean.
PS. your totally correct it is fraud, unless your claiming for a delay or complaining against the Train Company involved.Whoa! This image violates our terms of use and has been removed from view0 -
