Train refund for replacement bus service?

Jeff Bridges is absolutely right, harsh though it may seem we're in the days of private rail companies and whilst National Rail Conditions of Carriage may be common to all TOCs, quoting the terms & conditions relating to refunds on East Coast has no relevence to any other TOC in these circumstances
You can write and politely ask that your request for a refund is considered, given the inconvenience that you suffered, but there is no automatic right to travel for free in this situation.
good luck0 -

There's no problem, saw the Kings Cross bit in the OP's post and went for East Coast as it's an easy one to find.
Would have thought First Capital Connect (Thameslink) would have been the same. But as you stated a nice polite letter of complaint might work, the OP has nothing to lose in trying it :beer:Whoa! This image violates our terms of use and has been removed from view0 -
why r u going for a delay compo claim? just send the tickets back and demand a refund saying that u didnt travel in the end the unmarked tickets prove it.
they mite charge a £10 admin fee but ur get something back. just think of the incompetent service they provided that day as your reason that ur entitled to a refund.Fares Advisor & Oyster Specialist - Newdeal/ukRail Fares Workshop Accredited0 -

Rubbish...it will work everytime.
Just post your tickets to the appropriate railway company with a Royal Mail Certificate of Posting. Most of the railway companies will provide you with a freepost address. If they don't, insist that they refund you with the postage costs in the form of Rail Vouchers. Also scan the tickets and any letters into your PC and forward them via email to the relevant CEO of the railway company. Most of their email addresses can be found at http://www.connectotel.com/marcus/ceoemail.html.
If the railway company denies receipt of your refund request or tickets, just use the Royal Mail Certificate of Posting compensation scheme to get your money back from Royal Mail; up to a maximum of £41. If you exceed this amount, try splitting your claim up so that you post multiple claim forms. You will need to provide them with copies of your scanned docs and emails as evidence.:)0 -

If the journey really was as bad as you say you could try ringing up the rail company involved and ask to speak to their PR Director remembering to mention the special codeword WATCHDOG.0
