Appen is pants. They say they will pay you for time spent on the exam IF you pass it. Then when you pass it they tell you before you can start work you have to complete 20 HOURS unpaid work within 5 days. If you don't do it/fail to meet their ridiculously high expectations you get nothing, zilch, nada.

It wasnt like that when I started? Everything was paid for, even reading emails! At least they pay if you pass the exam. LF dont even pay for the exam if you pass! I found Appen much easier work than LF if I am honest. They are strict though, which is the only downside.

You won't be able to go back to LB now you have done the exam/are working for LF. They don't like that (unless it has been 1+ year since you last worked for either.) Plus you can bet if LF work is lacking, so is LB's...seeing as it all comes from the same place.

Thanks for that info. Will stick with LF for now and hope things pick up. Miss my regular work with Appen though.

Hi, What role do you all do as on the recruitment page there are six roles listed? I take it there is a exam for all of them, just checking as it only says about it on the advert for internet assessor?

    Thank you.

  • I have worked for all 3 and Appen wins hands down. Regular work, paid for training, but they are strict. LB is a close second, but a few years since I worked for them. LF is dire so far, but only passed the exam a few weeks ago. No work and expected to do unpaid training on top of the unpaid exam.

I agree. I have also worked for all three and think Appen is the best. I did not have to complete 20 hours unpaid work either - and it was only in October that I qualified with them.. I did get paid the agreed fee for training and the extra pay for admin. Unfortunately I did not last long as they needed to reduce the number of workers on the team for financial reasons and I was the last in. :(
  • I'm currently dragging myself through Lionbridge's Education Portal. Trying to remember why...

Can anyone point me to the Ads Specific Guidelines for Bad and Very Bad Ratings - they're supposed to be in an appendix somewhere, but I can't locate them. The FAQ and support functions are like chocolate teapots!

    Thanks.
  • Hi all,

I used to work for LB (about 3 years ago?) and pay was a set rate per hour (and I was very happy with it!). I've just applied to work for them again and they've offered me the Crowd Worker position. Reading up online it seems this is very low paid, like cents per task, and no guaranteed hourly, so nowhere near what they used to offer. Is this so? What changed? Is it even worth it now? Thanks

Nothing changed, it's just a different job. I've no idea what that job entails, but hopefully someone else who is or has done it will come along and tell you if it is worth it.

just started working lb and have just got paid but have realised they have paid me in euros on the payment invoice...so the rate per month i was expecting is much lower. Payment received is in UK pounds...how disappointing..anyone else experience this?

Yes Ann, I had to double check at first, my fault really because it was written in the email they sent me offering me the job, luckily for me I realised early on.

What's peeing me off is the exchange rate, between the time I actually did the work & getting paid for it, the amount I was expecting dropped :( But that's the problem with being paid in another currency, and it may work in our favour one day, depending on the strength of the Euro against the Pound.

Are you enjoying the work? On the whole I'm finding it OK, just wish there was more work available & I could speed up to meet their metrics. :)
