7 Weeks until xmas, how are we all doing ?

Hi peeps,

My aim isnt to depress anyone however christmas is ever looming (7 weeks away) and i thought it would good for us all to share how far we have got!!

Anyone finished buying pressies and sitting back nice and relaxed ?

Im glad to say ive got all the money i need saved up so its just a case of spending it now. ive cut my usual spending by more than 1/2 and i have to say it feels great to know christmas this year wont create more debt...

  • Im only buying for the kids this year (10 neices & nephews). Budget is around £10 each. I have got about 1/2 of the pressies so far. I have dug out all the xmas cards left over from previous years & think I have enough, so no new cards this year. Got wrapping paper with boots points & some xmas food from an M&S voucher.

Cutting back as much as possible & no credit will be used.

I haven't got any pressies and haven't got any savings either! I get paid at the end of November and my pressies will have to come out of that. I have vouchers for Tesco to help with food shopping and I've got about half of the ingredients I need for Christmas cakes and puddings. I'm planning a very cheap Christmas this year...

  • Well, I've got a few pressies tucked away but found out yesterday that my bursary for my uni course may not come through until the 19th Dec. By which time I would have been on the course for nearly 3 months. Don't know what they expect us to live on in the mean time.

I've got quite a few bits and bobs stashed mainly thanks to the amazon toy clearance thread on here..My problem is DS2's birthday Boxing Day  Poor little bod has to wait all year then double whammy but we can't spend less on him than we do the other 2 so I need to get xmas sorted NOW!!!
  • 7 weeks... #&£$*&#.. handbags!

Best presents... for the adults (suggestion too late for this year), home made pickles/jam... buying some parfit jars (a few quid each).. do a batch of various pickles/jams (enough for yourself and presents).

If they don't have great expetations, something home made goes down well in my experience (certainly with the parents.. is like bring a drawing home from school when your 5)

Children.. spoil them... just a bit. When I was young (not that long ago), I got one main present.... and lots of other stuff to open including wrapped oranges, sellotape, and thank you notes (in becomes an in joke after awhile) . Didn't do me any harm (I think)..

After all what really matters at christmas is love, care, support, fun, family, friends.. and maybe the odd thoughtful present.

Sorry to sound so boring and organised but we have done about 80% of our shopping already.

We have stashed some cash away all year and bought our pressies in the summer sales at Bluewater.

A few bits and pieces to get which we shall most probably buy online so we don't have to brave the crowds !!
Thanks to MSE I cleared £37k of debt in five years and I was lucky enough to meet Martin to thank him personally.
  • Well all of our daughter's presents are bought although we might buy her something extra at some point, so just the family and friends to buy little things for. Haven't got each other's presents yet either!

  • well i i only have hubby ...our 2 boys.....mil.... and my parents to buy for..... very small family..

dont bother buying brother's family anything....and they dont buy back.... as we both agreed it was wasting money..

i am really lucky as my mother allways buys our boys a big expensive presents...

    wich is agreat help.....

this year i have been more organised for years......

i cashed in my points on my boots advantage card... i had £42. add on it... so took full advantage of the 3 for 2 offers...so got 3 pressies.. which were worth £60. but paid £40... and in the keeping of money saving... they were the coin sorter.... for hubby....as he allways got loads of change in his bloody pockets when i go and wash his clothes.
a cash point looking money saving thing....and a fun fair type money saving money box.... you know the type where you got the crane type arm to pick up things... which i thought was cool... you put sweets in there... put your money in.. and try and grab a sweet...

i also got some game console games etc... from tescos r & r

so on the whole..i know i am not going to be stressed out this christmas.... plus food shopping... the only iff in our shopping is for christmas day......spend a little bit more on meat.... a tin of sweets... and a few others bits and thats it....as before i was throwing most of the stuff out as it wasnt eaten..

    so bring it on......:santa2:

Well I have been very organised this year. I have even made myself an excel spread sheet so I know exactly what I am buying everyone and what it will cost, I have also saved up loads of vouchers and have bought some presents already with these. I think that this will be the first Christmas in a very long while when I have not just reached for the plastic - Thanks to MSE!!
