Call it human nature in general..i was a great fan of a series of programmes in the 80's where they examined man's needs..how through war we progressed and how modern warfare, efficiency in killing( Nazi's) modern medicine,( Nazi surgeon's) TV, Internet etc developed from these needs of war...this is a generalized version.
Now in general man becomes obsessed with wanting things, the need to have what the Jones' have is an interesting one. So inherently we are all selfish as we want, we need and therefore we justify it..as it helps us live in modern society.
The truth is we can happily survive without perceived needs..hence oldstyle living and frugal living becoming more popular.

I think that given the current mis-mangement of immigration he did have some valid points. I am thinking in terms of stringent policies we have to adhere to if we as British Citizens have to adhere to if we want to emmigrate to another country.
I think it is scandalous that people come here and have been abused( re prostitution scandals), drowned( Chinese in Morecambe) and basically disappeared..and all because immigration controls are too lax and they have admitted it is impossible to trace them.
The recent scandals in the news have picked on so called soft targets to send back to their country of origin..even if they have lived here for all of their lives, or in one case was married to an English Officer who subsequently died and was deported back. I could go on, but the govt dept responsible is at fault for lax policies and inadequate provision to protect people who think this is the land of milk and honey.
I know there is also issue with the way govt used to advertise for foreign workers and basically shipped people over en masse..yep a whole can of worms.Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

Much the same on miners front here.
People that havent spoken from that day to this & peope that havent worked since the mines closed.
Men old before their time who we owe so much to.
At the rate we are going they might be needing to reopen some of the pits.
The one thing which maddens me about all of this Beanie, is the fact that health and safety issues etc essentially meant coal was no longer viable- despite the rich seams we have. So what do they do? Go to other countries and use cheap labour, have lax policies on health and safety and turn the clock back over a hundred years in order to do so..
Surely they could have come up with a workable solution to have stopped this. I agree we owe so much to them, they were part of what shaped the whole country and proud men who worked in their community for their community.Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?
