No, the American Revolution was different in that regards. Of course, X generations down the line, they are the same old same old.savingwannabe wrote: »Humans are self interested and only act in the short term.
Again, neither neccesarily true, nor neccesarily a bad thing. If we were a bit more self-interested, and not such busy-bodies, we wouldn't go round bombing countries with oil.savingwannabe wrote: »Animal farm.
We're almost like that - everyone is equal, but celebrate diversity. That's more akin to double-think I feel..."Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)

I can't recall any time when a government did listen to protests apart from the fuel protest. That's because the petrol stations were running dry, and they'd looked like they were out of control.
Even then, the "listening" only happened for a little while. It's the usual case of:- At point A
- Protest
- Protest
- Protest
- Protest
- Protest
- Goverment sort of agrees with you
- Compromise
- End of protest
- Government takes back part of the compromise
- Government takes back part of the compromise
- Government takes back part of the compromise
- Back at point A
- People can't be bothered to protest again
i would say that is bang on the way things are just now ... if i remember right the labour government brought in a back door policy after the fuel portests a few years ago ... making that type of protest illegal ... slid it in the back door and got away with it0 -
