Texting to a uk phone taken abroad

Sorry to show my ignorance. Is there an increase in SMS charge if I want to do this?

The actual situation is an O2 network phone taken to Poland and the need to send texts to it from my UK based Orange network phone. I don't know if these details make any difference.

There's no extra change for you, the person receiving the text may get charged roaming rates to get it. Depends on a number of factors.
  • Ah right - so if there is any extra charge it's the phone taken abroad which pays it on receipt of the text. Have I got that right?

No, there are no extra charges. Orange will charge you the normal cost of sending a text to a British O2 number. Your friend on O2 will not pay to receive a text anywhere in the world, and definitely won't pay to receive texts in an EU country such as Poland as this is specifically prohibited by an EU directive.

The only texts that are chargeable to receive are reverse-charge premium rate texts whose charge is not location-dependent.

Curious where that happens to receive a standard rate text and what the factors would be?
