BT broadband & Phone Help

My father had broadband and phone through BT, he phoned BT to inform them he did not wish to renew the broadband with them last February but was not cut off until september/october. He was unaware that the broadband was still connected. He has now received a threatening letter from Collect Direct who have bought this debt. He did not sign any sort of contract or credit agreement as he was unaware it was still connected.
He was admitted to hospital in July and as he had not paid his phone bill the line was restricted to incoming calls only. When he returned from hospital he paid the bill so the line was reconnected, at this point he had enough of BT and informed them he no longer required their service. He has recently received a seperate bill again from collect direct demanding a sum of money that is greater than the monthly cost of what was left on the contract. Again no contract or credit agreement was ever signed.
Any help appreciated, thank you

  • Im ever so sorry for the late reply, ive had a few problems getting access to the internet. Ive now contacted you through the details you provided on your profile page as this matter is still ongoing. It is now at the point where both BT and the debt collection agency are shifting the blame from one another. Any help you could provide us with would greatly appreciated, thank you very much.
P.S I entered the broadband account number but we didnt keep a record of the phone line account number
