I'd consider ditching the Sky subscription. With freeview channels and all the main channels offering on-demand internet viewing, there are so many free entertainment options available, you must be able to find something to watch that you'd enjoy.

You could always use something like bit.torrent to watch films / tv series online, or join your local library and borrow DVDs from there.

It is of course your call, but I think there are plenty of free / cheaper viewing options available to you if you look for them.

but at only £32pm for tv (with sky movies) phone and higher spec broadband I didn't think that was too bad. I suppose I could ditch it but I think I might struggle to get the high allowance broadband and phone line rental much cheaper on their own.

I'll look into it. It's cuts like that that are going to make me sad I think...

Like I said, it's your call ultimately, so if you're comfortable with it, stick with that.

We pay £11 a month for our landline (we never make calls on it, it's for broadband) and we get high-spec broadband for £7.50 a month through our mobile subscriber. It's fast, reliable, no complaints at all. Then we use the internet to make lots of our calls (through Skype) and for entertainment.

So if you wanted to, you could definitely get that number lower. It is your call of course, just making suggestions.

It's something to think about but I don't think it's right for me just yet. I know I could cut back much further. Am I being stupid not cutting everything back straight away?

Weekend done. Bad weekend. I over spent when I knew I shouldn't.

It probably looks to the outside world like I can't say no to my OH. It's not like that. I can't say no to myself when he's around. I know I make more than him and I want us to be able to just relax and that, to me, means having food we enjoy in the house and I bought a few beers for him too. Not because he asked, because I saw them and thought he'd enjoy them.

We often joke that we are each others enablers. It's not a joke anymore. I'm making him ill by giving him everything he'd like and we're both making ourselves skint.

I can do it when I know it's just me around. I'll eat the fridge left overs and spend a few pence getting something to make the cupboards stretch.

I'm in danger of killing us with kindness.

    Thanks MustStopSpending and Cygnet

Seeing your replies makes me smile.

MustStop - I'm a long way away from the well paid interpreting jobs but my hope for the future is I'll be able to earn enough to work less hours and still have enough to be comfortable and not stressing about money.

I think I've beaten myself up enough for today. I can pick up from where I left off tomorrow. :o

Oh dear....this sounds far too much like how my story started - look at my signature now!

    But, welcome back :)

I used to have the top broadband package from Sky, but switched to the free one in November and I honestly can't tell the difference.

Could you consier joining LoveFilm instead of the Sky Movies and giong to the cinema so often?

I was on the cheaper broadband package for ages but I keep going over their allowance because of all the video I've needed for Uni. Also, a lot of video skype calls to my tutors etc... Any other career and I could probably drop to the lower end broadband without noticing.

I haven't actually been to the cinema in a couple of weeks now. Maybe that's just my excuse. Take aways are as much my vice as anything else. I don't have a lot of stuff like CDs, DVDs but I'll pay for things that don't show later down the line. Take aways and junk for munchies, energy drinks, Petrol for endless trips, gigs. My money goes on experiences and disposables.

Is it possible to keep the OH but reduce the debt?! Given the choice, I know which one will win...
