What Kaz said!
It IS a huge achievement and payday is looming. Plan what you need to pay (and save for the annual expenses) and you'll have an excellent chance of success.
On the sign language career can i expect to see you at the side of the TV screen sometime in the future? I suppose you interpret for people at hospitals, clinics, (police stations?) and meetings generally?? It sounds very worthwhile and I imagine varied and interesting.
You are unlikely to ever see me at the corner of your screen. It's a little known fact outwith the Deaf community and sign language world that most of the people you see on screen are Deaf themselves. As much as I might not like it, most Deaf people prefer to watch a Deaf interpreter on screen. And yes, most can tell the difference, even between the highest trained, most fluent interpreter and a native Deaf signer.
The places I'll get work are any area where a Deaf BSL user needs to communicate. So all the places you mentioned above and anywhere else really! I tried my hand at conference interpreting last week during a multilingual debate with uni and really enjoyed it. I'd like to do some more of that. But for now I'm most likely to be seen assisting Deaf learners in colleges and universities.
I'm getting there. It's a learning curve and it's ok to not get it perfect straight away, right? Can we pretend that aeroplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars, cause I could really use a wish right now...0 -
CONFUSED!!!!!
I went to try and apply for a 0% card for a balance transfer. I got refused. They said my credit score wasn't good enough and that they'd used experian.
so I went along to Experian and checked. My credit score is Excellant! with a capital E! 998 to be precise.
I just don't understand...Can we pretend that aeroplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars, cause I could really use a wish right now...0 -
quick update.
I checked Experian - All is well in that land
I checked Equifax - according to them I am not registered to vote at my current address and never have been. If that is the case my vote in the last election should not have been able to happen... I am opening a dispute with them now. That was the sole thing not spot on with that account.
Very annoying. Can we pretend that aeroplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars, cause I could really use a wish right now...0 -
I have a lot to update but I don't really have the time at the moment.
It became official on Thursday that they are closing the site. I still don't know when I'll finish up yet though.
I am having changes to my sign language qualifications at the moment.
Everything is up in the air and being totally honest, I'm frustrated, fed up and scared now.Can we pretend that aeroplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars, cause I could really use a wish right now...0 -

Hi everyone.
It was my birthday on Saturday. That meant the end of the 6weeks of strictness. Except that it didn't. I'm just getting started.
I had a blow out this weekend. I spent rather a lot of money across 2 days. I got more drunk than I have in years in an effort to forget everything and just let my hair down for a change. It worked. I had a great time and now I'll be back to very rarely drinking, selling things and generally getting back down to business (I have to fix the blowout if nothing else)
I went to the cinema for the first time since January too and that was really nice.
I'm still solvent. That's something.
Oh, in other news I asked my dad for a microwave for my birthday so hopefully that means I can do a bit of batch cooking and save money on electricity with some of my cooking now. But for going so long without a microwave I feel like such a sell out!
I hope everyone is well. I'm just about getting over my hangover now.
Much fun was had.
Good grief! I'm 28! How'd that happen?!Can we pretend that aeroplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars, cause I could really use a wish right now...0 -
Does anyone else find that their strictness and resolve ebbs and flows?
I've let stress get the better of me and I've been spending. Not hugely, and mostly not for me. It is pay day on Thursday and I'm still making ends meet but not making huge dents in the debt, more like the occational little chip in it. Much of my spending has been doing things for me (my first hair cut in nearly a year, no colour though :-( ) and doing things for bf because his situation is much worse than mine and I relax a little if I'm helping mke things a bit easier for him (a small food shop for example)
I'm not drowning. But it would be nice to be able to fly for a change.
I've started having the occasional drink again too. That feels strange but nice after nearly a full year of not drinking. It's still not every week and really I need to remind myself that alcohol isn't an essential.
I'm a bit sad, a bit fed up and I could really be doing with a change. I guess finishing up this job on 1st July will provide that if nothing else.
Right, enough wallowing. More action.
Two cheques to put into the bank today and they are going to get me a valid passport. I think that will stop me feeling quite so land-locked and might also present a few more potential opportunities when on the job hunt than if I didn't have one.
Ok, off to work with me.
