I won but prize is missing/stolen!

:(Just had a letter from Smyths Toys saying I'm one of the winners of the Buzz Mag (Sun) comp and prize is a £50 voucher, envelope was ripped and enclosed in a plastic one from Royal Mail saying sorry it's been damaged etc...and to make a claim if anything is missing/damaged:( Should I try to claim or ring Smyths?? Or it's just one those things..................

Oh dear, sorry to hear that....thats awful. I would def. phone or email Smyths and let them know....they should have sent the letter reg. or recorded. Hope you get it sorted ....Good Luck.

I am gutted, wins are thin on the ground here at the mo! Have emailed Smyths as no one answered the phone number on letter.... need to get a form from RM, but if they would pay out:cool:? It came from Ireland (don't know if that makes any difference), maybe if Smyths see it has happened to a few ppl....

Same here, Im going to give it a day or two more to here a reply from smyths, Im guessing when the RM email back they will just tell me to get a claims form, I hope they payout, the thing is they would have stolen it even if you had bought it! its madness, do you know if smyths will have to fill in any of the claim form? xx

I don't know abt Smyths, but this the RM:

ur UK ServicesCompensation available for lost items1st ClassFor stamped and metered items a postage refund plus compensation on the basis of actual loss, where evidence of posting and evidence of value can be provided. This compensation is subject to the maximum payable being the lower of the market value of the item and statutory maximum of 100 x 1st Class stamps at the first weight step.

Postage refund (a minimum payment of 6 x 1st Class letter stamps at the first weight step) shall be payable where only basic evidence is provided or the item is of no intrinsic value.

Claims must be submitted within 12 months of posting.

Thats awful!! and not bloody fair, doesnt mean we should stop trying though, yeah still no mail back from smyths I might mail the online store, I have mailed them In the past thanking them for wins from newspaper comp ects and they have always mailed back...xx

If they sent it first class, and Smyths can prove they sent it, you should be able to claim the amount that is least out of £50 voucher (contents) or 100 * first class stamps....which works out at £41 so I guess it would be that?

I'm amazed that Smyths didn't send it recorded. :-(
