Wi-fi in New York

HI guys,
I am going to NY in few weeks time and I was wondering what the situation there is with free wifi?
I mean like in the UK, there is free wifi in Starbucks etc.. You can come in, buy a coffee and connect your laptop or Iphone to their wifi.
Do they have something like that? And if so, where? Any known chains?
Thank you

starbuck and mcdonalds both have it in other US states so should be the same, for starbucks you need one of their loyalty cards if I remember correctly. many hotels have free wi fi0

Depending on weather, if you wanna sit outside, bryant park has free wifi, and eslick is right you need an loyalty card to use starbucks wifi, but you can pick these up in store and chuck $10 on it and you're pretty much good to goLive each day like its your last because one day you'll be right0

i was picking up free wifi all over new york on my iphone even got it in parts of central park.
many restaurants had it along with what seemed like 5000 starbucks dotted all over NYC.
i was using an at&t pay as you go sim and did not need to do anything to get wifi in starbucks must be similar to using openzone/the cloud on o2 in this country?0 -

Thanks guys...
So when you say loyalty card it's not just one of those where they give you a stamp for each coffee, it is piece of plastic which you have to load with money?0 -

That is great. I am also on O2. And it would be easier to drag the rest of the group to Starbucks then to MacDonalds:-)) Everyone needs to sit down for a coffee:-))0
