I couldn't believe the reply which was that It would be awhile as People who pay for their prescriptions go before the ones who get them free. ... I was told that this was Boots policy and if I didn't like to go else where!
It is very, very unlikely that this is Boots policy.

Write to Boots head office (never bother with the branch), making a formal complaint.

The staff members concerned should be sacked.

Sacked? Seriously? Yes, they should be spoken to, but, come on now.
  • I worked for Boots on the pharmacy counter back in 2005 and I can say this never was the policy in my store. It was always in order of prescriptions received nomatter if you were paying or got it free.
If they have changed the policy it seems very odd.
  • This isn't company or store policy.

Call 0845 070 8090 (Customer Care - better than writing letter!) and they will make sure you are treated well (especially if you have a Boots card)

Im wondering if you misunderstood and that the pharmacist meant the people who had already "paid" for their scripts - or had already put them in - would get them first, that is, you would have to wait til people before you had got their scripts.. I find it very hard to believe the interpretation that you may have misheard, it seems unbelievable - I would go back to the branch and ask to speak to the manager there.

 I have just returned home from town where I was made to feel like a second class citizen.

I had been to the doctors today as I needed some medication for my disability. Normally I dont use boots for my prescriptions.

I went into Boots and handed them my prescription (due to the benefit I'm on I am entitled to free prescriptions). The pharmacy was very busy and the girl behind the till asked another colleage how long the prescription will take as I wanted to wait for it.
I couldn't believe the reply which was that It would be awhile as People who pay for their prescriptions go before the ones who get them free. I said that they were discriminating against people from all sorts of backgrounds (age, disability e.t.c) and I was told that this was Boots policy and if I didn't like to go else where!!

I walked out the shop and took it to Lloyds the chemist who were fantastic.

What I was led to believe is that if you were for example elderly and therefore receive free prescriptions and you were waiting for your prescription and 4 other people came in with prescriptions who pay for them, then these 4 people will be served first before you!!!!

Complain, in writing, to Boots head office - they get the same amount of payment, no matter what.

    It's not their policy.

We are lucky with getting our meds - we order them online, the GP sends the request to local independent chemist, who delivers them to us at home - fantastic service, and all done within 3 days.:T

    Lin :(

This sounds a much more likely explanation.

I think the OP misheard/misunderstood what was said.

I work in a Pharmacy and all prescriptions, paid or not, are dealt in the order that they are received. This is regardless of if the person is in a hurry or not. If they don't want to wait their turn, then they can take the script elsewhere or call back.
We recoup the same for a paid or unpaid script.
At the same time, if you felt aggrieved you could have complained there and then, whilst the matter was fresh in the staffs' minds.
